Kenny Florian has officially retired from the sport of mixed martial arts

Rumors were circulating around the combat sports world today in regards to what UFC President Dana White's special announcement would be following this evening's TUF Live weigh-in's. It was a bittersweet one.

White opened with the old story about how he first spotted Kenny in Boston 8 years back against a much bigger Drew Fickett. That performance earned the pride of B-Mass a spot on the 1st season of TUF, as season that jump started so many big names and arguably saved the promotion itself.

The resume Florian created for himself after is impressive to say the very least. He will most likely remain the only UFC fighter to compete in 4 weight classes. The belt may have alluded him but he got the chance to compete for it twice at 155, and once at 145. Not many fighters can say that. Florian ends his career with a record of 16-6 with a victims list that contained the likes of Clay Guida, Joe Stevenson, Diego Nunes, and Joe Lauzon all in their prime. Florian also has to go down as the man with the most dangerous 'helbows' in the game.

Luckily for us we still get to see Florian breakdown fights and share his views with us on Fuel TV and twitter @kennyflorian

BJ Penn could see himself fighting at lightweight again

Attention all you BJ Penn die hards: not only does Penn say that he's likely coming back, he may even compete in the division where you've been clamoring for him to make his return.

FOXSports top dog Jay Glazer sat down with the UFC legend and finally got him to speak out on his fighting future. After staying mum on his plans since his initial retirement following the loss to Nick Diaz at UFC 137, Penn told the Glaze that he's not ruling out a comeback. "It ain't gonna be in the next couple months that's for sure," Penn was sure to let us know after explaining that he is warming up to the idea of a return to competition.

Breaking News: Wanderlei Silva vs. Rich Franklin 2 is your UFC 147 headliner

With the news of Vitor Belfort falling victim to a broken hand coming out over the weekend it left the combat sports world wondering, who will take on "The Axe Murderer" in the main event of UFC 147. Well that question has been answered. The promotion had an "Ace" up their sleeve. Enter Rich Franklin. The UFC announced just moments ago that Franklin will step in for Belfort and face Silva in a 190-pound catchweight bout.

Franklin has been training to take on Cung Le at UFC 148 in Vegas for the already stacked 4th of July card. With 147 taking place just a couple of weeks before, it appears that Franklin will be more than ready for a five round main given that he won't have to cut as much weight as previously needed.

Franklin already holds a victory over Silva which he earned via unanimous decision back at UFC 99 in Cologne, Germany back in June of 2009. It was a fight that earned both men a well deserved fight of the night bonus for slugging it out for fifteen full minutes. This marks the second time that Rich Franklin has replaced an injured TUF coach, he filled in for Tito Ortiz en route to retiring Chuck Liddell at UFC 115 in Vancouver following 'TUF season 11: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz'.

Expect plenty more on 'UFC 147: Silva vs. Franklin 2' right here to come as this event nears. You can check the fight card as it stands today after the break.

Arianny Celeste kicked her boyfriend in the nose inside of a limousine

Just a little follow up to the story that garnered plenty of attention during this weekend's Vegas festivities. The Las Vegas Sun reports that Arianny Lopez (Celeste) was brought in on domestic violence charges over the weekend because her boyfriend Praveen Chandra (34) doesn't like getting kicked in the nose. The direct shot landed by the Senior Octagon girl in command was the result of Chandra choking and grabbing her arm inside of the couples hotel room. All allegedly of course.

The Sun does point out that marks were visible on the body of Celeste. The kick to the face apparently took place inside of a limousine on the way to the Wynn hotel. Arianny even found it in her heart to chuck of a couple of vases (insert Sean Connery impression here) at Chandra. Apparently all of this was over some text messages sent to Celeste from other men. Of course Chandra was brought in on domestic violence charges as well.

My final analysis - Don't snoop on your significant others text messages. Don't choke or grab girls. Don't mess with girls that happen to be employed by the same organization that employs hundreds of the most dangerous men in the world. And this Chandra dude sounds like a bag of douche. You can catch his mug shot after the break if you're interested in that sort of thing.

What's next for the cast of 'UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir'?

With UFC 146 in the books, Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez 2 is the only option with Overeem out until 2013. Will Cain be ready though?

Junior dos Santos / Cain Velasquez - Each other. Dana White made it clear that Cain Velasquez will be the next challenge for dos Santos. Both impressed the masses this past Saturday night, and both remain the top 2 heavyweights in the division with Overeem serving out the rest of his suspension. The only problem for Velasquez is that he may not be medically cleared until later this year to compete. Should the UFC or dos Santos prefer to have a heavyweight title fight before then - who will be worthy? Well, Velasquez will likely be available before Novemeber, (his left hand needs to be cleared by a doctor) but let's just say he isn't for this articles sake.

There's a pretty big drop off after the big three (dos Santos, Velasquez, Overeem). Mir is clearly not worthy of a rematch, and Carwin should not be rushed back into another fight against Junior after what happened  last time. Cormier is worthy, but he needs to finish his +1 fight over in Strikeforce. Same goes for Josh Barnett. The only logical opponent would be Fabricio Werdum. It's promotable; Junior was the man who ko'ed Werdum, sending him to Strikeforce - which turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Fabricio. Werdum comes back to the promotion as the first man to defeat Fedor, along with a victory over Bigfoot of his own. He's currently scheduled to compete against Mike Russow at UFC 147 in Brazil next month.

Roy Nelson - Roy still has a place in the UFC heavyweight division. His big three losses come against top contenders, all by way of decision. Even if they were lopsided ones (they were), that's more than you can say for the rest of the combatants on the current roster. While it may not be healthy for the long term health of Roy, his ability to endure more punishment than the average bear coupled with that deadly right hand makes him a threat to anyone on any given Saturday. Assuming he doesn't make that drop to light heavyweight - here are a couple of options for "Big Country".

Shane Carwin. This fight was scheduled to occur at the New Years Day 2011 card (UFC 125) but was scrapped due to Carwin injuring his back. Nelson is the perfect come back opponent for "The Engineer". Both fighters like to stand and bang and if the fight hits the mat either man can impose his will. Another option for Roy would be Stipe Miocic. He's coming off a big win over the previously undefeated Shane Del Rosario at UFC 146 and mentioning him here means I don't have to write about him in this article now.

Stipe Miocic - I like what I saw out of Miocic on Saturday, Del Rosario was a step up from De Fries and Beltran and he got it done. He comes out of a great gym at Strong Style in Independence, Ohio so I figure I should write about him anyway. If the UFC doesn't make Nelson vs. Miocic (this would be a great 'Fight Night' headliner), I'd like to see Gonzaga next for Miocic. He's another step in the right direction for this heavyweight on the rise.

Stefan Struve - It's clear that Struve likes to stay busy. He's 24 years old and has an unfathomable 29 contests under his belt. His three UFC losses come against the likes of current champion JDS, the undefeated Travis Browne, and of course Roy Nelson. Everyone else he's been put up against he's finished (with the exception of Paul Buentello). For me, Struve vs. "Bigfoot" Silva is a very interesting fight for the division. Bigfoot is still a step up for Struve even though he's coming off two straight losses, let's be real. Those defeats came against two of the top five HW's in the game today. Struve vs. Bigfoot makes so much sense that I'm not even going to suggest anything else.

We take a look a couple of non-heavyweight winners from UFC 146 after the break.

'Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy' tickets on sale this week

UFC fight club members can purchase tickets for Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy as early as Wednesday at 10 AM for the promotions summer trek to Portland. As usual, newsletter subscribers will have to wait until Thursday, and the general public can grab theirs on Friday.

This event will showcase current Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold attempting to make his second successful title defense against #1 contender Tim Kennedy. Kennedy got a crack at the title last summer but came up short against Ronaldo Souza at Strikeforce: Houston.

The co-main event features Tyron Woodley (who comes in as a perfect 8-0 under the Strikeforce banner) squaring off against promotional and welterweight newcomer Nate Marquardt of UFC fame. The winner of this contest will be awarded the belt that was vacated by Nick Diaz when he was promoted to the UFC after defending the title three times.

This card will also feature the middleweight debuts of Lorenz Larkin and Roger Gracie. You can check the Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy fight card as it stands today after the break.

UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste's emotional mug shot photo

UFC 146 was supposed to be the event that saw Arianny Celeste and Brittney Palmer share ring card engineer duties together once again. Arianny had been running things solo on the road while Brittney held it down for TUF Live in Vegas. Since TUF Live had run it's last episode on Friday, and the event was taking place in Vegas anyway, well, reunited and it feels so good peaches and herb styles right?

Unfortunately Celeste engaged in some violence of her own on Saturday morning- of the domestic variety. By the look of the mug shot snapped above via tmz it was obviously an emotional morning for Arianny. The long time UFC employee and November 2010 Playboy cover girl remained in jail for 12 hours after being taken in for suspicion of domestic violence. The exact details still remain unknown according to sources but it's been made clear by UFC President Dana White that her job is not in danger. Celeste showed toughness and dedication to her job by showing up later that night at UFC 146 and looking lovely as ever just in time for the co-main event of the evening.

Anderson Silva's 'Like Water' documentary trailer

via imdb -

Anderson Silva is the deadliest man on the planet The longest-reigning UFC Champion, and the most feared fighter in mixed martial arts. Like Water offers a unique perspective of the living legend as he trains with fellow fighters Lyoto The Dragon Machida, Junior Dos Santos, and Antônio Minotauro Nogueira, in preparation for his career defining title defense against challenger, and arch villain Chael Sonnen. Sonnen, a former champion wrestler, has many predicting that he is the one fighter who possesses the skill set required to defeat Silva.

A man of few words, Anderson Silva walks the fine line between cockiness and confidence. A philosopher in spirit, and dedicated family man, Silvas personality contradicts that of Sonnens, who uses trash talk and intimidation to get under his opponents' skin.

Balancing family and fighting; respect for the sport, and rage for his opponent; Silvas mind and body will be put to the test, as first-time filmmaker Pablo Croce peels back the layers of an ultimate fighter to reveal the heart of a champion.
Check the trailer(s) after the break.

The Weekend in Violence 3 Stars - Velasquez, "The Outlaw," and "C-4" edition

1. Cain Velasquez

Cain on blood - " It doesn't bother me... it doesn't bother me at all, you know, the smell... it was just a lot slipperier. You just gotta be aware of that. "

Cain Velasquez was not very nice to Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva this past Saturday night. The term crimson mask is typically used when a fighter is left with his face bloodied up by his opponent, forming a mask around his eyes and mouth. Velasquez dressed Silva in a crimson body suit.

After an easy take down due Silva throwing is leg out for Velasquez to catch early it was just a ground and pounding all over the face of the Bigfoot from there on out. Welcome the UFC big guy. According to fightmetric it ended with Velasquez winning the striking war 14-1, with all of those strikes coming from a close distance. It was a short elbow that opened Silva up - from then on it was just that killer instinct that earned Cain another shot at the title which was formerly his.

When the cage doors close, Cain is an ice cold killer. They say no one trains harder in the game today, no one has a better gas tank. He just wasn't himself back on November 12th. Lets see how a healthy Velasquez deals with Dos Santos later this year. I can guarantee this fight will not have the same outcome as the last.

UFC 146: ' Dos Santos vs. Mir' post fight press conference video + fighter bonuses

An additional $ 70,000 was awarded to each of the following fighters for their refusal to underachieve during tonight's fights inside of Fight City Nevada's MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Fight of the night - None

Knockout of the night - Dan Hardy + Roy Nelson

Submission of the night - Stefan Struve + Paul Sass

UFC 146 Results: Dos Santos finishes Mir via second-round TKO

It was a night of finishes in Fight City, Nevada and the main event of the evening was no different. Mir never quite looked comfortable after an early unsuccessful takedown attempt on Dos Santos. Once the Champion found his rhythm, it was like target practice. The crafty Brazilian striker hit Mir hard, and often. Mir countered with some solid leg kicks and jabs of his own, but nothing was phasing Dos Santos. Eventually in the 2nd Round Mir could not get up due to the sheer volume of strikes his opponent had continued to land on various parts of his skull.

" I didn't want a boxing match with him, he just forced me into it. I couldn't take him down," Mir explained following the 2nd Round defeat he suffered via the deadly hands of Dos Santos. It was another impressive showing from a man who just seems to be the nicest, and most dangerous man on the planet today. He's a special fighter who you can hit once, and he'll return the favor while giving you two more on your way down.

Keep it locked on hov-mma for plenty more on UFC 146 as this Memorial Day weekend progresses including who we believe should be next for the cast of this historic (and quick) event.

Final Result: Heavyweight Championship Bout: Junior dos Santos (C) (15-1 MMA, 9-0 UFC) defeats Frank Mir (16-6 MMA, 14-6 UFC) via TKO (strikes) (Round 2, 3:04)

UFC 146 Results: Velasquez bloods Bigfoot en route to a dominating TKO finish

It started with a quick takedown after a poor kick attempt from Silva, followed by one short elbow to the bridge of Bigfoot's nose. What followed was a relentless striking attack from the former UFC Champion Cain Velasquez all over the blooded face of Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva. Referee Josh Rosenthal made sure to have the doctor check Silva's cut due to the blood pouring into his eyeballs. The fight continued and so did the dominance of Velasquez - his performance tonight separates him from the rest of the division, putting him right back in line for a title shot against the winner of Dos Santos vs. Mir.

Final Result: Cain Velasquez (10-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) defeats Antonio Silva (16-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) via TKO (strikes) (Round 1, 3:36)

UFC 146 Results: Big Country only needed 51 seconds to KO Dave Herman

Roy "Big Country" Nelson needed a win in the worst way tonight at UFC 146 after dropping 3 of his last 4 inside of the world famous Octagon. Roy came to work equipped with that big monster right of his, and it was all he needed to put Pee Wee's lights out. It was like Nelson vs. Schaub all over again, if you don't see that right hand coming from that far away - then it's likely curtains for you.

Big men fall awkward, and Herman certainly did. Using his height to pepper Nelson with some front kicks, it appeared that it could be a long night for Roy. That wasn't the case. Nelson looks to collect his 3rd KO of the night bonus during the post fight festivites. He'll have some stiff competition in his friend, and fellow "Las Vegan" Dan Hardy.

Final Result: Roy Nelson (17-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC) defeats Dave Herman (21-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) via KO (punch) (Round 1, 0:51)

UFC 146 Results: Jamie Varner is back in a big, big way

Not so fast Edson Barboza. One of the hottest up and comers in the lightweight division just took a screeching halt. The reason? The hands of former WEC Champion Jamie "C-4" Varner.

Varner stayed patient eating a steady diet of Barboza's lethal leg kicks, and it payed off. A very smart game plan consisting of well timed take downs, and impressive combinations landing on the body and the head helped lay down the blueprint when fighting Barboza. One thing that Barboza never faced before in his young UFC career was someone with the lightning quick speed of Varner. Luckily for Varner he caught his opponent early while he still had his legs under him.

It was a monster right that dropped Barboza, followed by a barrage of hammerfists, forcing Steve Mazzagatti to step in and call a halt to the action. Varner earns his fourth win in a row, while Barboza drops the first of his career.

Final Result: Jamie Varner (20-6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) defeats Edson Barboza (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) via TKO (punches) (Round 1, 3:23)

GIF: Dan Hardy revives his career via left hook of destiny

Dan Hardy KO's Duane Ludwig with a vicious lead left hook

UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir quick results

UFC 146 Results: Dan Hardy KO's Duane Ludwig with a vicious lead left hook

After Dan Hardy knocked Duane Ludwig down with a picture perfect left left hook on the jaw, he put both of his hands up in the air, knowing he had just knocked one of the toughest Welterweights in the game silly. There was still some work to do though for the Outlaw, he followed his unconscious opponent to the ground and landed a couple more unnecessary shots, forcing the referee to step in.

It's been a long road to victory for Hardy, he hadn't had his hand raised since his unanimous decision victory over Mike "Quick" Swick back at UFC 105 in Machester, England. Since then he's dropped four in a row. To his credit, the losses came to the current Welterweight champion, the Interim champion, a guy who is closer to Heavyweight than Welterweight on fight night, and a hero who rode off into the sunset.

In a promotion that is usually three and out, and certainly four and out, Hardy was given another chance due to his ability to bring the  "War" every time. It surely can also be attributed to the lack of British stars, and his Xyience deal.

It was a bittersweet moment for Hardy ending his long slide against a man in Ludwig who he had followed throughout the duration of his career, but with this impressive knockout "The Outlaw" has just earned himself an extended life on the biggest stage in mixed martial arts.

Final Result: Dan Hardy (24-10 MMA, 5-4 UFC) defeats Duane Ludwig (21-13 MMA, 4-4 UFC) via KO (Round 1, 3:51)

UFC 146 Results: Paul Sass taps out Jacob Volkmann early in the 1st Round

During the post fight in cage winner interview following his UFC 146 submission victory over fellow lightweight Jacob Volkmann, Joe Rogan asked Paul Sass how many finishes he had racked up via triangle over his young fighting career. Looking over the young brit's resume, I spy nine. Even more impressive is the fact that the first seven fights of his career all ended via that very move, which remains a world record.

Sass capped off the facebook portion of tonight's UFC 146 card by tapping out a fighter in Jacob Volkmann who had won five consecutive fights in the promotion via decision. In a classic battle of wrestling vs. jiu jitsu, jiu jitsu won tonight - with a quickness. The submission specialist improves to 13-0, three of those under the UFC banner, leap frogging his opponent - who had been gathering some steam as of late in the consensus lightweight rankings for many mixed martial arts websites around the world.

Final Result: • Paul Sass (13-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) defeats Jakob Volkmann (14-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) via triangle/armbar (Round 1, 1:54)

UFC 146 Results: Glover Teixeira just sent a message to the UFC light heavyweight division

Everyone in the mixed martial arts community can now rejoice that Brazilian MMA vet Glover Teixeira (pictured above with Lyoto Machida) has finally solved his visa issues. Everyone except Kyle Kingsbury that is. Under the tutelage of the legendary Marco Ruas, and pit master John Hackleman, Teixeira lived up to all of the hype that followed him into Vegas tonight.

Teixeira made it 18 in a row tonight with his quick disposal of AKA product Kyle Kingsbury, sending a violent message to the UFC light heavyweight division. A division that was once regarded as the deepest in the sport needed a fresh new face to throw into the mix. Teixeira, at the age of 32 with the right people in his corner (add Pedro Rizzo and Chuck Liddell), is someone you're gonna want to keep a eye on at 205.

Final Result: Glover Teixeira (18-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) defeats Kyle Kingsbury (11-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) via arm triangle (Round 1, 1:53)

UFC Primetime 'Dos Santos vs. Mir' - The Final Episode

Episode 1

Episode 2

TUF Live: Iaquinta, Chiesa meet in the Team Faber finale

Team Faber will be celebrating extra hard tonight as the longest season of TUF comes to an end with fighters Michael Chiesa (7-0) and Al Iaquinta (5-1-1), both in blue, set to battle for the UFC contact on June 1 at The Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas.

For Chiesa, the decision to stay in the show after the death of his father early in the season, has been cemented as the right choice with his victory over James Vick (4-0) via TKO at 1:55 of round 2.

Chiesa definitely will have the crowd on his side given that emotional journey that played out weekly.

In the night's other fight we saw new favourite Al Iaquinta (5-1-1) take on Vinc Pichel (7-0) from Team Cruz. Iaquinta is known for his aggressiveness in the cage, and this fight against Pichel didn't disappoint.

Iaquinta controlled the first round with a dominant performance of punches and kicks, however it was in the second round that Pichel planned his comeback - and provided a much closer round, mixing up his game in order to attempt to push the fight to a third round. Unfortunately for Pichel it was too late with Iaquinta taking the fight via unanimous decision.

Based on performance Iaquinta should take the TUF Live finale fight. Chiesa was looking a little sloppy in the standup and Iaquinta will take advantage of this.

Don't count Chiesa out though, he took on early favourite Justin Lawrence and won via TKO in the third 'sudden victory' round in the Quarter Final.

The TUF Live finale card (as of 5.26.2012)

Jake Ellenberger vs. Martin Kampmann

Jonothan Brookins vs. Charles Oliveira
Justin Lawrence vs. John Cofer

Their Violent Past: Junior Dos Santos knocks Fabricio Werdum into Strikeforce

Heading into UFC 90, Fabricio Werdum was expected to make it three victories in a row against a fighter in dos Santos who was a virtual unknown stateside. Instead we witnessed the beginning of a new era. It would be the first of eight victories in a row for JDS, a feat which is not only unheard of in today's UFC heavyweight division, it's also a feat that ended with him hoisting the most coveted strap in sports, the same strap that he will defend for the first time in Vegas this coming Saturday night against Frank Mir at UFC 146.

Relive the UFC debut of current heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos above thanks to the fine folks over at fueltv.

Champions Gone Wild: Jon Jones wrecks Bentley, earns his first DWI

Jones and his 2012 Bentley Continental GT during better times

When the news came over the wire early yesterday that UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon "Bones" Jones had just wrecked his plenty while under the influence the first thing I did was check the calendar. Nope, too late for a April Fools Joke. Could it be true that the promotions do-gooder/golden boy not only ran his car into a pole, but he consumes adult libations as well? Maybe he just overdosed on his daily "Prayer for Rashad" regimen.

In all seriousness, the positive that comes out of this is that Jones only suffered minor injuries and no one else was hurt. We all learn from our mistakes. Unfortunately for Jones this may be a mutli-million dollar mistake. That Nike sponsorship he's been dreaming of may have been put on the shelf for the time being.

Video from WBNG Binghamton Action News after the break.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson IV is the only fight to make with the current Strikeforce roster

If the third scrap is indeed the last scrap between these two, it just doesn't seem like anything resembling finality has been given.

That's 15 rounds, an hour and fifteen minutes in the books now between these two champions. Three title fights. One unanimous decision victory for each fighter and a split decision victory for Melendez last night in San Jose. In yet another all out war. So why bother with a fourth match up? Well, everything I just said above and plenty more after the break should convince you.

With the induction in 2010 of B.J Penn into the Hall of Violence it was only time when another inductee would be named to keep Penn company in the somewhat less than violent room.
What better to fill the void than The Axe Murderer himself?
Wanderlei Silva embraces all that is required to be inducted, he has performed at an elite level of violence, for a long period of time, while creating some of the most memorable moments in combat - both in and out of the cage.
Let’s take a look back to an amazing career that spans nations and has inspired thousands.
Pre-1996: A 13 year old Wanderlei starts his journey in the sport as a way of gaining confidence to meet girls.
11.15.1997- IVC2: Silva proves the fierce competitor within during a fight with Artur Mariano which resulted in Wanderlei getting cut above the left eye. Subsequent headbutts to his competitor over the course of the fight led to the cut opening up several times in the first round, eventuating in the fight being stopped at 13:10 of round 1.
10.31.2000 - Pride 11: A solid kick to the groin causes Silva to gain his first and only no contest at 0:21 of round 1 agaisnt Gilbert Yvel.
08.10.2003 - Pride Total Elimination 2003: Silva experiences his third win over Japanese superstar Kazushi Sakuraba in as many fights. All wins were by way of TKO, through knees, soccer kicks, punches and a doctors stoppage.
11.09.2003 - Pride Final Conflict 2003: Wanderlei defeated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson by delivering a series of seventeen consecutive and brutal knees resulting in a TKO and the label of 2003 tournament champion.
10.31.2004 - Pride 28 High Octane: Silva again faced “Rampage” Jackson, this time ending up on the ground at the end of the first round. In round 2, the Axe Murderer came back and brought back the brutal knees, ending up in a knocked out Jackson from the clinch.
05.24.2008 - UFC 84: In Silva’s return to the UFC after his stint in Pride, the Axe Murderer demolished Keith Jardine at 0:36 in round one via KO, earning him the honours of the night.
02.21.2010 - UFC 110: Silva debuted at Middleweight against Michael Bisping at the promotions first venture in the Australian market. While the fight went the distance, Wanderlei showed he was returning to form with glimpses of the Axe Murder of old including a tight guillotine choke at the end of the second and a solid right hook that dropped the Englishman in the third.
2010 - World MMA Awards: The hidden talent of comedy from Wanderlei is unleashed onto the world via the “Dear Wandy” segment.

11.19.2011 - UFC 139: After a KO loss to Chris Leben, Wanderlei faced Cung Le and defeated him in convincing fashion with a TKO in the second after a flurry of knees and punches.
2012 - TUF Brazil: Wanderlei takes the Axe Murder to Brazil while coaching the local TUF series alongside fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort. His comedy is also on fire, when talking about a low kick to the groin and the requirement for a good protective cup, Silva throws in the “mine’s super sized” comment for good measure.
While the champion’s career has been up and down since coming back into the UFC, no one can doubt his dedication to his fans, or as he calls them friends, in giving them an entertaining fight. This is why he is a legend in and out of the cage.

Renan Barao has been announced as Urijah Faber's opponent for UFC 148

photo via - mmaweekly

Dana White tonight announced Renan Barao as the replacement for the injured Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, to take on Urijah Faber at the UFC's 148 card for the interim title.
Cruz, who injured his ACL in training last week, was only able to look on in disappointment as Barao walked into the TUF Live Training Centre for the live announcement and subsequent stare down.

Barao is coming into the July 7th fight with a 28-1 (1 NC) record, and is currently sitting at 5-0 in Zuffa owned promotions, fighting in the WEC before it was dissolved into the UFC. The Brazilian fighter and black belt in BJJ has shown to be extremely dominant on the ground, recently earning Fight of the Night honours for his first round submission win over local favourite Brad Pickett at UFC's Birmingham show in Nov 2011.

It was the decision win over fellow-WEC name Scott Jorgensen at UFC 143 that catapulted Barao into the title mix, with the original plan to face Ivan Menjivar at the same event he is now co-headling. This was to determine that number one title contender in the division.

While Barao has now been promoted, and with Michael McDonald injured, no word has been made on who the replacement is to meet Menjivar.

While Faber didn't say much during the announcement, it was an awkward laugh at the end of the Barao highlight reel that questioned his sense of comfort and control going  into the bout. With Cruz, Faber had an enemy due to an issue of disrespect in the WEC days and had faced him twice before - with the series tied up.

Barao is unknown to Faber (the two have never crossed paths) and is a huge threat to show up not only the California Kid's own ground dominance but also to his pride. A loss to Barao will mean a fourth unsuccessful title attempt since losing the WEC Featherweight title to Mike Brown at WEC 36 in November 2008.

Cruz will continue to coach the remainder of the TUF Live season with two of his fighters, James Vick and Vinc Pichel making it through to next weeks semi finals.

Bellator 69: Aguilar defeats Fujii via unanimous decision

It was billed as the battle of the top two 115 pound fighters in the world. It left the fans wanting more.

It was Jessica "Jag" Aguilar who emerged victorious after three hard fought rounds between two tough as nail competitors. Aguilar took the fight 29-28 on all three judges scorecards earning by far the biggest win of her highly successful fighting career.

Following just the second defeat of her already legendary career, Fujii told us that she will likely take some well deserved time off. If Bellator does decide to put on a 125 lb women's tourney next season and Fujii is in the field, it's likely that she'd still be the favorite. She's just that good and she has yet to be beaten convincingly. That said, tonight is Jessica Aguilar's night.

Photo of the Week: When Bryce met Brittney

This past Tuesday afternoon, 19 year old Washington National Bryce Harper recorded the 2nd home run of his major league career. Unfortunately it was in a losing effort against the San Diego Padres. But hey, the night before we saw Harper, the 2010 number one overall draft pick belt the 1st homer of his promising young MLB career. Harper's solo shot off Tim Stauffer would help the Nats add another win to their already impressive home record.

So what to do on a Tuesday night after dropping a 6-1 ball game against the 1984 NLCS Cub-Busters? How about taking in some UFC in Virginia. It's only about a three hour drive right? While you're at it, why not hang out with March 2012 Playboy Playmate, and UFC Ring Card extraordinaire Brittney Palmer? Not a bad week for the Las Vegas kid who grew up wanting to be Mickey Mantle.

Bellator 69: Fujii vs. Aguilar weigh-in + staredown video

This fight is the one that has the greatest importance on tonight's Bellator 69 card. It's been a long time coming, and it decides who is the best at 115 in the world today. You can catch it live tonight at 8 PM ET on MTV2 or streaming on spike.com .

Chael Sonnen takes the 2012 smack-off crown

Just in case you missed it, Chael "The Voice of Reason" Sonnen entered the jungle earlier today. It wasn't for another interview to promote his book or sound off on any and everyone with the last name Silva this time around though. No his hispanic doppelganger didn't make a second appearance either. Sonnen was the grand finale for the 18th annual smack-off, and all he did was win.

No "Iafrate", no Brad in Corona, no Sean the Cablinasian, just Chael "Freakin" Sonnen. To get your daily Sonnen fix, expect plenty more leading up to, and beyond June 7th - join us after the break.

Chael on Basketball: " It used to be about great athletes, now it's about who's taking a turn on a Kardashian next. I was gonna work Kobe into this whole rant, but what can I do to Kobe that God hasn't already done?. " - Chael Sonnen

Chael on Nascar: " The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and getting a different result."

Chael on Baseball: " It's America's sport because American's are obese.  The End."

Chael on Football: " It's about the beer people, take the beer out of the stadiums and you'll take the people out as well."

Chael on Golf: " That's a sport where Dancing with the Stars rejects go to die. The best thing Tiger Woods ever did was that hot Norwegian wife of his."

Megumi Fujii - "The Streak"

Lake Charles has been blessed with the presence of greatness this week in the form of one Megumi "Mega Megu" Fujii. Fujii will compete tomorrow night inside of the L'Auberge du Lac Casino Resort as part of the Bellator 69 main card (which you can catch at 8 PM ET on MTV2).

It's no secret that Fujii is closer to the end of her career than she is from the beginning. The 38 year old Okayama Prefecture born mastermind (who spent plenty of time training with Saturday nights Strikeforce headliner Josh Barnett) put together what many continue to call the greatest streak in mma history. "The Streak" began with a rear naked choke victory in Megu's first professional fight back in August in 2004.

Fast forward a little bit over six years and 20 more wins later. The streak comes to a close, in controversial fashion nonetheless against Zolia (the martial artist formerly known as Frausto) Gurgel. Unfortunately for Fujii this would be her first attempt at holding a championship belt and she came up just short in the judges eyes. However, her 22 fight win streak will be remembered more than a belt that has still yet to be put up for defense.

After the break you can a highlight video that chronicles the first 21 victories of Fujii's grand streak. Make sure you tune into Bellator 69 tomorrow night at 8 PM ET on MTV2 to catch Megumi Fujii vs. Jessica Aguilar.

Josh Koscheck has been offered BJ Penn for his next scrap

But will it be enough for "The Prodigy" to come out of his retirement?

Koscheck, who is coming off a close split decision loss to Johny Hendricks earlier this month, took to twitter over night to voice his excitement over being offered a future UFC Hall of Famer -

@JoshKoscheck - just offered me to fight BJ Penn...I said YES!!!!! Just waiting on him!!!!!! Let's scrap bra?
Last fall in Colorado, we saw Koscheck KO current Hall of Famer Matt Hughes, we haven't seen Hughes back since. Now that Penn and Hughes have become friendly after their trilogy that came to a conclusion in Michigan the November before last, one has to wonder if this could play a factor in Penn signing on the dotted line for another scrap. Of course location could also play a major factor. UFC President Dana White has teased that he would love to do a show in Hawaii and have B.J. headline.

Keep an eye out here or on BJ Penn's twitter feed for more on a match up that was suggested by @HankBooth in the aftermath of 'UFC on FOX 3'

UFC on Fuel TV video highlights: The Korean Zombie put Dustin Poirier to sleep in Fairfax, Virgina last night

There have only been less than a handful of fight of the year candidates so far in the mma world as we approach the summer. Last night in Fairfax, Virginia a frontrunner was born thanks to two of the top UFC Featherweights in the world. Thankfully ring card engineer Brittney Palmer (pictured) was front and center to catch all of the action inside of the cage last night.

Check out the video highlights from The Korean Zombie vs. Dustin Poirier via fueltv below.

UFC on Fuel TV 3: 'Zombie vs. Poirier' main card play-by-play

Main Card (Fuel TV 8:00 PM ET)

• Middleweight bout: Jason MacDonald vs. Tom Lawlor

Round 1: We are live for our first fight of the evening on Fuel TV. It's the Athlete vs. "Filthy" Tom in a fight that will be contested at 185 lbs. MacDonald has been heard saying that he's like to end his career later this summer as a part of the UFC 149 card in Calgary. Let's see how he fares tonight against a guy who's known more for his weigh-in/cage entrances than his fighting career.

The Birthday boy Lawlor in the white trunks, MacDonald in the blue. MacDonald looks for an early take down to no avail. WHOA. Lawlor with a qucikkkkk one punch KO. A "Filthy" left hand followed by a right behind the ear and it's curtains for Mr. MacDonald.

Final Result: Tom Lawlor defeats Jason MacDonald via KO (Round 1, 0:50)

• Light Heavyweight bout: Igor "The Duke" Pokrajac vs. Fabio Maldonado

Round 1: The Brazilian Maldonado sports the black trunks while his opponent from Croatia sports the red  trunks that actually look more purple too me. Dan Miragliotta will be the 3rd man in the cage for this contest. Pokrajac starts off on top in half guard. Now he has Fabio's back, transitioning to mount, then half guard from the top. Wrist control for Igor now, looking for some ground and pound. Pokrajac is in charge in every aspect of the fight so far from the body to the hands. Maldonado escapes and wants nothing to do with the ground game as Igor tries to lure him back in. Both fighters are now standing and Maldonado is landing the better of the punches. He's actually the only one landing punches. A knee from Pokrajac in the clinch, but Maldonado could steal this round with all of the punches he's landing to he body and the face of the Duke. Tough 1st Round to score. I'll go 10-9 Pokrajac.

Round 2: Leg kick early from Pokrajac. The body shots from Maldonado are landing tonight. Pokrajac has Maldonado against the cage, lands another knee in the thai clinch. Both fighters look winded and content to hang out against the cage. Every strike landed, although few and far between, are lethal from both fighters. Maldonado is working the body while Pokrajac continues to utilize the knees from the clinch when given the chance. This was clearly the Brazilians round, he seals the deal with a late takedown. 10-9 Maldonado.

Round 3: An early exchange from both men that ends with Maldonado in control of his opponent once again against the cage. This is a dirty boxing war that Randy Couture would approve of. Another knee from Pokrajac from the clinch. This is his most dangerous weapon and he's not shy about it. Both fighters are separated and Pokrajac is now getting the better of the exchanges. The Croatian in control now against the cage. Piss poor take down attempt from Maldonado, and the mouthpiece of Pokrajac falls out. A short timeout and we are back in business. A nice left lands from Maldonado on the jaw. He's backing his opponent up. Now Pokrajac lands with a left of his own. The last 30 seconds are just incredible. These guys both put on a show tonight. It ends with Maldonado and Pokrajac embracing, knowing that they both just put on a high caliber performance for 15 full minutes. I give that last round to Pokrajac.

Final Result: Igor Pokrajac defeats Fabio Maldonado via UD (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)

Play-by-play for the final 4 fights of the night after the break.

UFC Primetime: 'Dos Santos vs Mir' full debut episode

" I'm extremely capable of taking his belt. If he underestimates me I'm very capable of ending the night very quickly. He's a pretty elite athlete. I don't think he wants one of his joints smashed." - Mir

" He's not a man. He gives up. Against Shane Carwin, he pretended he was hurt. He's full of it."
- JDS

" I don't know why everybody worships this guy [Mir]. His ground game is very simple. It's only his attacks that are a little dangerous." - Big Nog

" JDS is a young guy. If I catch him in a hold and he taps, he lives to fight another day. If I catch him in a hold, and he decides not to tap, that limb, is it ever going to be the same again?" - Mir

You can find the full episode after the jump. I have to say, the intrigue factor of this fight is much stronger than what Dos Santos vs. Overeem would've been right now.

Chael Sonnen opens Mean Street Pizza in his hometown

Back in the Spring of 1977 on the means streets of West Linn, Oregon, a true American Gangster was born. Fast forward 35 years later, the gangster that we speak of rewards the streets that raised him with a place to enjoy everyone's favorite past time - eating pizza.

Mean Street Pizza is open for business, and from the looks of it they make a "mean" pie. My mouth is salivating just from looking what the pizza aptly dubbed as "Mean Street" consist of. Hot red sauce, marinated chicken, roasted jalapenos, roasted red peppers, roasted garlic, and crushed red peppers.

So whats Chael's favorite slice on the menu. How about the "Tanner Woods"*, a slice where you can find basil pesto sauce, steak strips, yukon gold potatoes, roasted garlic, parmesan, and herb. Not bad, not bad at all. You can find a video of Chael talking about his new business venture from the folks at NWFightscene in full entry.

Mean Street Pizza Menu

"Like" Mean Street Pizza on facebook

* - Chael actually names the "Barrington Heights" as his favorite slice of pizza but then goes on to describe what appears to be the ingredients of the "Tanner Woods" as listed on the menu.

Shinya Aoki vs. Kazushi Sakuraba headed for summer DREAM fight card

Coming off his first loss in eight fights, Shinya Aoki (pictured), appears to have a new opponent waiting for a summer tilt. According to bloodyelbow, Kazushi Sakuraba will be fighting one more time. The Aoki vs. Sakuraba tilt will take place as part of the yet to be named summer DREAM card in Japan.

Not only has the 42 year old Sakuraba dropped his last four fights (including one where he lost his ear, which was later successfully re-attached) , his body language just hasn't been that of a fighter who should be competing in mixed martial arts present day. He comes into the ring wrapped up like a mummy, with the first leg kick his opponent throws at him looking just as painful as the last.

As a fan of Sakuraba, and just a human who doesn't enjoy watching an aging fighter take a beating, I don't like the idea of Sakuraba continuing his career. What I do like to see is that the last (hopefully) fight of his career will be coming against a man who isn't considered a dangerous striker. Shinya Aoki would just as much like this fight to take place on the ground, and be the final man to submit one of the greatest submission artists, and overall all most beloved Japanese fighters of all time in Sakuraba.

Reports say this fight will be contested at Welterweight. If it indeed is Saku's last fight, then expect an insane intro video and entrance (as always), and heartfelt going away speech. This will surely be one of the more memorable summer mma moments of 2012.

The hov-mma rankings - May 2012

The Lightweight division has become what the Light Heavyweight division once was - the deepest division in all of the sport. On August 11th in Denver, Colorado UFC Lightweight champion Benson Henderson and former champ Frankie Edgar will once again duke it out to decide who belongs at the top of the shark tank that is the 155 lb. division.

Oh ya, don't forget about Gilbert "El Nino" Melendez. He'll be defending his Strikeforce title next Saturday against the man he's been trading it back and forth with over the past few years in Josh "The Punk" Thomson. Three of the top ten ranked P4P fighters in the world (Henderson, Edgar, Melendez) are Lightweights.

Lightweight (5/8/12)

1. Benson Henderson (16-2) (1)

2. Frankie Edgar (14-2-1) (2)

3. Gilbert Melendez (20-2) (3)

4. Gray Maynard (10-1-1) (↑5)

5. Michael Chandler (10-0) (↑7)

6. Nate Diaz (16-7) (↑10)

7. Clay Guida (29-12) (↑8)

The Weekend in Violence 3 Stars - A 'UFC on FOX 3' hat trick of violence

1. Nate Diaz - Going back into the Weekend in Violence archive I see that this recurring three stars deal was started in July of last year. Since then Nate Diaz has taken top honor three times. No one else has even done it twice.

With three gorgeous displays of violence since re-entering the lightweight division, Diaz has put himself in line for a title shot. He's also earned himself some well deserved rest from terrorizing anyone who weighs right around 155 lbs that steps into cages with him on Saturday nights in front of a bunch of people that wear a ticket stub inside of their pocket.

For the GIF of the power guillotine Diaz placed on Miller that forced him to almost bite his own tongue off, click the "read more" thingy at the end of this post.

2. Alan Belcher -  I'd be lying if I told you that I didn't text a friend or two telling them to tune in and watch this submission specialist name Paul Harris take the dude with the ugly Johnny Cash tattoo's foot, and/or leg home to Brazil with him on national T.V. Saturday night. Once Belcher's fight with Palhares hit the ground it was just a matter of time before the heel of "The Talent" was in jeopardy. Great submission defense, and even a neck crank attempt of his own, showed us that Belcher was more than ready for anything "Toquinho" had in his arsenal. Eventually the fight ended with a storm of elbows and fists being landed on the face of Palhares forcing referee Dan Mirgliotta to step in and save the Brazilian foot fetishist from further damage.

3. Lavar Johnson - This is just a bad, bad dude with the swagger to match. It was uppercut central all over Pat Barry's face to open up the FOX broadcast Saturday night, and Lavar Johnson's fists were doing all of the talking. With two knockout of the night bonuses in two UFC fights, it's clear that the guy the youngsters are calling "Big" Johnson has found a home inside of the Octagon. This would be the most violence we'd see via the 'UFC on FOX'. That was until of course Alan Belcher and Nate Diaz showed up later on in the show.

Honorable Mention - Louis Gaudinot for putting John Lineker to sleep via guillotine in the fight of the night on FuelTV.

Dominick Cruz injures his ACL, pulled from UFC 148 title fight

Should we start calling it the TUF curse? Dominick Cruz just became the third coach since 2010 to be forced out of a post-season PPV card due to injury. The news broke earlier today via phytegurus that Cruz blew out his ACL, which means that there will be no trilogy fight this summer to give the champ or his challenger Urijah Faber to go up 2-1. It was later confirmed via

While Cruz recovers, it remains to be seen if a replacement will be called upon to fight Faber on the already stacked 4th of July weekend UFC 148 card. Two likely possibilities for a bantamweight #1 contenders bout would be Renan Barao (who is training to fight on that same card currently), or Michael McDonald (he's coming off the biggest win of his career in Atlanta last month).

When Dana White tweets "stayed tuned for more info", that usually means we will know the answer to these questions very soon.
