One FC: 'War of the Lions' Results

One FC is here to stay.

The Asian promotion, who only started up a year ago, took elements of Pride and focused on showcasing the best from around the world mixing it with local talent. What has resulted is three incredibly strong shows, with last night’s One FC: War of the Lions, being it’s best yet.
From the tones of Lenne Hardt announcing the fighters to the quick finishes, no fight disappointed, unless you count the Manheof vs Nakanishi fight stoppage, and allowed fans to see the talent that this region has to offer. Evolve MMA based out of Singapore continued it's dominance, with four of their fighters experiencing wins.
For the first time, women were included in the card, with Jeet Toshi taking on Nicole Chua. Chua for the record, is Singapore’s first professional MMA fighter. She is quaint, softly spoken and absolutely lethal in the cage, taking Toshi to the ground and gaining her back for a RNC submission win at 2:07 of round 1. Asked whether she would quit her day job for MMA in the post fight interview, Chua quietly mentioned that she wasn’t sure yet. It was the polar opposite to the performance that we just witnessed.
On the men’s side of the game there were some huge names appearing in the One FC world. Masakazu Imanari took on Kevin Belingon in a one sided fight that consisted of Imanari controlling the leg, changing from heel hook to toe hold and finally back to heel hook for the win at 1:18 of round 1. From the looks of things Imanari wasn’t too fussed, taking it all in his stride, with a yawn at the announcement and checking out what was in the goodie bag.
Evolve MMA fighter Eddie Ng showed the world why he is one fighter to be on the look out for, taking it to Jian Kai Chee from the started bell until he catches him with a right hand, dropping Chee and at first looking for a guillotine, until he decides to get the mount and rain down on Chee until the TKO is called. What’s more impressive is that this was done at 0:48 in round 1.
Eduard Folayang and Ole Laurson put on a performance that’s already been considered as fight of the year, with a back and forth tussle across all three rounds. Solid punches were thrown by both competitors, as well as kicks, and takedowns were about equal. While Folayang looked to be the better of the two as the fight progressed, the judges gave it a split decision victory to Laurson. The way it looked though, Laurson definitely won the first round, with the remaining two should have gone Folayang’s way. The scoring system for One FC however looks at the overall fight, rather than rounds. Either way there may be a rematch in the future, which is one everyone should definitely tune into.
The main event was a bout between Felipe Enomoto vs Zorobabel Moreira, which saw the Brazilian controlling the fight for the first two rounds, delivering a series of nasty leg kicks. Enomoto did get back in the fight delivering some solid body shots and elbows throughout the rounds, until he ended up on his back late in the second and received a nasty illegal stomp. Going into the third round Zorobabel time’s his kick perfectly to sweep Enomoto’s legs from underneath him and takes advantage, immediately going for the figure four of the body and then transitioning to the arm bar at 1:03 of the round.
Unfortunately the only downside to the event was the quality of the streaming, which needs to be looked at immediately if they intend to charge PPV for the event. While the general public was a little less harsh due to it being free, imagine the outcry if they had charged the $24.99 that was intended. At times the stream was constantly stuck in a buffer loop, or would just jump to a previous part of the nights broadcast.
Once they get this fixed, then One FC will certainly be a force in the MMA world, something that I’m sure that the UFC is considering as they prepare to move into South East Asia.
Full fight card results:

Bellator 63: 'Assassin vs. Psycho' Results

The Mohegan Sun in Uncansville, Connecticut was the setting for another violent Friday night in the world of mixed martial arts. While the Welterweight quarter-finals were the main attraction of Bellator 63, once again, the full card (aside from Baker vs. Pereira) delivered in spades from start to finish.

After the break you will find who advanced to the Bellator Season 6 Welterweight semi-finals, along with the rest of the results for Bellator 63 'Assassin vs. Psycho'.

ONE FC 3: 'War of the Lions' open workouts video

MiddleEasyTV  shot some footage and edited it together at the open workouts for One FC 3: 'War of the Lions' in Singapore (which takes place at 8 AM ET live and free on YouTube tomorrow morning). It helps that they slapped Guillotine by Raekwon from the classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx album over the footage. RZA beats just make everything sweeter to the ears and eyes. Lovely job.

Cruz, Faber rekindle the UFC rivalry spirit

TUF Live coaches Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber show that there certainly is no love lost in their rivalry within the UFC Bantamweight division. It all started with Cruz’s WEC debut in 2007 against the then Featherweight champion, Faber. Unfortunately when requested to sign the promotional poster for the event, Cruz wasn’t featured and decided to sign over Faber’s head, which in turn infuriated the champ into a dislike that has continued over the last five years.
While these two fighters have faced each other in different circumstances, with Cruz now holding the title in a different weight class, we haven’t really experienced their dislike for each other outside of a UFC Countdown show.
TUF Live certainly has placed a spotlight on this hate/hate relationship, and the actions of Team Cruz in the last two weeks have only fueled the flames, not only with the actions leading up to the selection of Team Faber’s Christiano Marcello to fight Team Cruz’s Justin Lawrence; but also with the release of a video involving Team Cruz’s coaching staff replaying the fight pick, with the laughs on Team Faber.
While many have been left wondering as to the excitement level in regards to the coaches in this season, the rivalry is certainly gearing up, and we are only in week three of the season. I’m sure it will get better as we continue, especially if Team Cruz continues on it’s winning streak.
The Cruz/Faber rivalry may not be the most documented rivalry in UFC history, the spirit that they have shown in this season so far has influenced me to chose a few outstanding rivalries that come to mind.

Chael Sonnen - "By the way Anderson, if I want your opinon I will beat it out of you."

UFC 147 headliner Chael Sonnen responds to Anderson Silva politely asking him to "stop talking and start training".

'UFC on FOX 3: Diaz vs. Miller' Event Poster, Updated Fight Card

The IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey is the setting for the next "Big FOX" show on the Ultimate Fighting Championship's packed 2012 calendar year.

The Main Event of the evening will likely produce the #1 Contender for the winner of Benson Henderson and Frankie Edgar's summer sequel. Mr. Diaz is coming off of a record breaking performance for accuracy in a three round fight (258 out of 314 punches according to compustrike) at UFC 141 just this past December. Diaz has put himself "in the mix" after that very performance at UFC 141, where he stole the momentum from a Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone that came into said fight with a very impressive 4-0 showing in 2011 before Nate carved him up.

The Miller brothers, Dan and Jim, are known for their grit, their ability to take punishment when they aren't dishing it out. Neither of these veterans have ever been finished in a fight. Jim Miller is no stranger to finishing his opponents, he has 15 in all. His most recent was an impressive rear naked choke finish of knockout artist Melivin Guillard back at the first UFC on FX show. That submission earned him submission of the night honors along with the opportunity to headline a mixed martial arts show and FOX.

While this card may not boast that free TV title fight or even a stacked "tripleheader", I believe it will be the most successful in terms of entertainment value due to the unpredictability and tenaciousness of the 8 men featured. When have you not talked about a Pat Barry or Rousimar Palhares fight the full week following an event? After the break you can peruse the full fight card as it stands today.

UFC 147: Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen 2 is a reality

Chael Sonnen will get another shot at the title. This time it will be on enemy soil. The UFC made the official announcement today via press release that Silva vs. Sonnen II will take place on June 23rd in front of the largest crowd the company has ever seen. The 55,000 fans we saw last year at UFC 129 inside of Toronto's Rogers Centre will be a record of the past this summer when Anderson Silva attempts to defend his Middleweight title for an unheard of 10th consecutive time.

Canadian Prime Minister bestows the gift of signed GSP gloves upon Japanese PM

How do you sweeten up Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda before free-trade talks? How about breaking the ice with a pair of autographed UFC gloves signed by none other than long reigning Welterweight Champion and Canadian mixed martial arts icon Georges St. Pierre.

With prior knowledge of Prime Minister Noda (who holds a black belt in judo) being a huge St. Pierre fan, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper made a pretty slick offering Sunday afternoon. By the smile on his face you can assume that the free-trade negotiations between Japan and Canada should be a great success.

Kimbo Slice recorded a buzzer beater KO over the weekend

He was a YouTube backyard brawler sensation. He was the biggest draw in the now defunct EliteXC's history. He still holds the Spike TV/TUF ratings record for his fight against Roy Nelson back in 2009. He's probably the most recognized fighter in the world today believe it or not. So what's he been up to of late? Just knocking dudes out on the professional boxing circuit, and continuing to make his paper stack bigger.

Down on the scorecards against former MMA Middleweight Brian Green heading into the 4th and final round of their fight last night, Kimbo pulled off a buzzer beater KO with just 3.3 ticks remaining. As a professional boxer Mr. Slice now boasts a perfect 4-0 record. For your viewing pleasure we have video of the complete final stanza after the break.

Bellator 62 Highlight: Rick Hawn KO's Ricardo Tirloni

It may have been announced as a TKO in the cage but Tirloni was clearly out cold for a good second. That was enough for Bellator Season 6 lightweight tournament favorite Rick Hawn to advance to the semi-finals.

The Lightweight tournament semi-finals will take place in Cleveland, Ohio on April 20th at Bellator 66: Alvarez vs. Aoki II.

UFC 145: Rashad Evans 'The Payback' Promo

"Jon Jones was a friend, like my little brother. We were never supposed to entertain the idea of fighting each other. This is a lot deeper than any other fight that I've had. There was definitely a code broken. When I'm out there tired, I think about Jon thinking that he's better than me, thinking that he's gonna expose me. I'm motivated beyond belief. I'd give my life for it right now. When Rashad Evans is fired up about something... you better get out the way. It IS about payback."

For everyone fiending for some "Suga", the Rashad Evans promo you've been waiting for from JMH Films has arrived. You can find the one minute promo after the break.

For those of you who missed the Jon Jones 'Believe Your Eyes' promo by @jasonmhehir, you can find it right here.

Bellator 62 Full Fight: Lloyd Woodard deletes Patricky Pitbull via devastating kimura

Bellator really seems to be coming into its own the last couple of seasons, building a history with fights like Alvarez vs. Chandler and now Woodard vs. Freire that are helping define the Chicago based promotion.

Woodard defeated Pitbull last night, thus punching his ticket for a date with Rick Hawn in the Season 6 Lightweight semi-finals, in a fight filled with crazy transitions and countless "oh shit this fight is over" moments.

You can catch the full video of last nights magical Lightweight Quarterfinal bout between Lloyd "Cupcake" Woodard and Patricky "Pitbull" Freire after the break.

5 Rounds of Ellenberger vs. Kampmann will headline the 'TUF Live: Team Cruz vs. Team Faber' Finale

Wait for title shots, or beating the toughest guys in the division until it just becomes impossible for them to ignore you?

This is the motto that guys who have been competing amongst the top tier opponents for half a decade each respectively.

Jake Ellenberger (pictured above knocking out Sean Pierson at UFC 129: St. Pierre vs. Shields) and Martin Kampmann embody the tireless work ethic displayed by champions in all walks of life (too much?). The event was announced earlier today by theultimatefighter and will be scheduled for 5 Rounds, headlining the June 1st event at the Palms Casino Resort. UFC announces trips to Toronto and Montreal in 2012

Lets face it. Georges St. Pierre took a whipping from the Toronto press after his lackluster UFC 129 headlining stint last April. But guess what, St. Pierre is still the face of Mixed Martial Arts and UFC 129 has been recently nominated for "Event of the Year" by the Sports Business Journal.

It was no secret that the UFC would be announcing it's Alberta debut today at their 2 PM presser in Flames Central. So what could possibly make today even more special for fans of Canadian Mixed Martial Arts? Well the promotion will be making it's third visit to Toronto (UFC 152) on September 22nd, and its first trip to Montreal (UFC 154) since December of 2010 on November 17th of this year.

This gives GSP the opportunity to put on a show for some of the greatest sports fans in the world, and wash away the stink of his performance against Jake Shields. You can rest assured his return against Carlos Condit will take place at one of those two events.

St. Pierre (who appeared via satellite from Los Angeles during the presser) added that Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal will host events in 2013 as well.

UFC 149: Calgary Press Conference Live Feed

Check back at 2 PM EST on Wednesday March 21st for more information on the 149th numbered event in UFC history. UFC President Dana White and Director of Canadian operations Tom Wright will be front and center at Flames Central to announce the promotions Calgary debut. Tune in right here on Wednesday afternoon to get the low down on what exactly will going down in Alberta on the night of July 21st, 2012.

Jose Aldo will headline UFC 149 in Calgary

While many Champions have passed through the Scotiabank Saddledome in recent years, the Flames faithful have not had one to call their own in quite some time. Not since the days of the Clarence Campbell Conference, and fiery moustached Lanny McDonald have the Flames hoisted Lord Stanley.

On July 21st UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo will be gracing the Saddledome with his presence. A source close to hov-mma has informed us that the young Brazilian will be making the 6th defense of his title against an opponent who has yet to be named. As long as that opponent isn't from Canada you can already bet that all of Alberta would be more than happy to adopt Aldo as their own for one week in late mid July.

You can catch the live UFC 149 event announcement Presser right here at hov-mma.com, to see if the UFC names an opponent for Jose, and find out if the promotion has anything else up their sleeve.

Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz will settle their score on July 7th in Vegas

Two of the most recognizable names in the sport will lock horns for the third time this summer in Las Vegas at UFC 148.

While Tito and Forrest may not be in line for a title shot soon they will always carry a huge following wherever they fight. For Tito, this will be the last time he fights, in the UFC at least. Ortiz pulled off the comeback of the year last summer by rocking Ryan Bader with an uppercut and choking him out back into consciousness. Ortiz, a company man through and through, did the UFC a solid by filling in for the injured Phil Davis to take on Rashad Evans just weeks later. While the move was a very honorable one by Ortiz it didn't end well for "The People's Champ". Ortiz was finished via strikes to the body, and again suffered the same fate to Rogerio Nogeuira later in the year.

The always entertaining newly crowned Strikeforce Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey was interviewed recently on Dan LeBatard's "Highly Questionable" program. If you didn't catch it on ESPN2 or online yet make sure you check out the full interview after the break.

Rousey: "Um...somebody got hurt. *laughs"

The Weekend in Violence: Three Stars

Bellator, Cage Warriors, Score Fighting Series, BAMMA USA, TUF Live - pick your poison. Another jam packed weekend in Mixed Martial Arts has come to the conclusion which brings us to another edition of the weekend in violence. Here are our top three, of what could've very well been made into a top ten, stars of the weekend.

1. Brian Rogers (@BRogthePredator)

Go ahead and hold Brian Rogers (pictured) responsible for what could possibly be thee Kodak moment in Bellator history thus far. His flying knee finish of Vitor Vianna this past Friday night in Louisiana further proves that the Chicago based promotion has one of the most violent rosters in the sport.

Next up for "The Predator", a date with Bruno Santos in Cleveland, Ohio on April 20th at Bellator 66. The winner gets a shot at $100K and the opportunity to become the next Bellator Middleweight Champion.

Sunday, March 18, 2012

Rich Franklin set to make his return to Middlweight at UFC 148 against Cung Le

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin will return to division where he reached the pinnacle of his career this summer. Standing across from him will be an opponent in Cung Le who you may find more of in the straight to dvd section of your local video store than inside of a cage.

Undefeated in the world of Kickboxing, Le made waves in the Mixed Martial Arts world with Hollywood worthy showings against Frank Shamrock and Scott Smith. More recently he came out on the wrong end of a Fight of the Night performance against Wanderlei Silva in San Jose. After "The Axe Murderer" was finished with Le his nose looked a lot like Franklin's circa the night of October 14th, 2006.

UFC 148: Cruz vs. Faber 3 will hit the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on July 7th.

UFC on FX 4: Gray Maynard vs. Clay Guida claims Main Event status

Two decorated wrestlers will take center stage on June 22nd in Atlantic City when Michigan State University alumnus Gray "The Bully" Maynard (10-1-1 MMA, 9-1-1) takes on Team Jackson's Clay "The Carpenter" Guida (29-12 MMA, 9-6 UFC).

This Lightweight tilt is set to be the 5 Round Main Event of the evening per the UFC. Maynard finds himself empty handed coming off consecutive high profile title shots against Frankie Edgar during his 2011 campaign. Maynard put the hurt on Edgar in the 1st round of both bouts scoring 10-8 worthy performances that reeked of deja vu. Edgar came back both times, scoring a draw and eventually a KO in the latter of the two events.

With four consecutive victories in the always crowded UFC Lightweight division, Clay Guida was seemingly just one victory away from a title shot. Then Benson Henderson happened. A win over a high profile fighter like Maynard puts Guida right back in the hunt for a rematch with the now current champion in Mr. Henderson. Expect a war when these two top 10 Lightweights collide this summer in New Jersey.

Score Fighting Series 4 Highlight Video, Full Event Results

The Score Fighting Series scored big time in it's second visit to Hamilton, Ontario this past Friday Night. This time around a slew of local Canadian talent, along with a couple of former UFC vets looking to find their way back to the big show, put on an action packed show for the Hamilton Place Theatre crowd. Full results after the break.

UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans Extended Preview Video

It's closer than you think folks. Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans is just over a month away. Strangely reminiscent of the greatest Light Heavyweight feud of all time "Liddell vs. Ortiz", this match up has the legs to rewrite the history of the division.

Bellator 61 Highlight: Brian Rogers finishes Vitor Vianna via flying knee of destiny

Here is your early KO of the year winner (Barboza's spinning wheel kick at UFC 142 could arguably be the only competition so far) in moving picture form.

TUF Live: Cruz’s mind games expose Team Faber

Dominick Cruz took only one episode to successfully get into Team Faber’s head, not with name calling or silly pranks, but by picking his number one and heavy favourite to win the tournament, Justin Lawrence to battle it out live on next weeks show and expose Team Faber.
Cruz initially won the pick due to a fight-ending KO from team member James Vick over Team Faber contestant Daron Cruickshank at 2:16 in the first round, when Vick timed a right knee into the oncoming head of Cruickshank leaving him out cold.
For Cruickshank this is a bitter loss, having to not only spend the next 12 or so weeks within the house but to do so without any chance of winning the UFC contract and Tapout sponsorship at the end.

Bellator 61 Results: Four Middleweights advance to the semi-finals

The Horseshoe Riverdome was the setting for the Middleweight Quarterfinal round of Bellator Season 6 tonight in Bossier City, Louisiana. Brian "The Predator" Rogers (pictured left) stood out from the rest of the pack with an early 2012 KO of the year candidate worthy performance. His flying knee of doom that rendered Vitor Vianna unconscious whilst punching his ticket to the final four.

You can find the names of the three fighters that will join the Predator later next month in the Middleweight Semi's as well as the undercard results from Bellator 61 after the click.

"Breaking Bellator" Episode 61 Preview

If you’re a fan of the amazing television show Breaking Bad, you’ll appreciate this.  The letters “be” stand for the metal, Beryllium. It happens to be a metal that has a high melting point and has the ability to scratch glass.  It also makes the new series of breaking down Bellator cards fit into our little “Breaking Bellator” idea, so it’s basically win-win.  Sit back and relax as I go Heisenberg on this event and tell you what to expect tomorrow night.

For those of you who are in the know, this fight card was supposed to be capped with a heavyweight rematch between Thiago Santos and Eric Prindle to settle last season’s heavyweight tournament, due to an illegal low blow that resulted in a no-contest when Prindle was unable to continue.  Tomorrow night the two were scheduled to fight again, settle their score and crown a tournament champion, but Prindle was forced to pull out due to sickness.  It is an unfortunate break for Bellator.  Let’s move on to the four tournament fights that will make up the televised card.

Giva Santana vs. Bruno Santos

Giva is known as the “The Arm Collector” due to his penchant for winning fights via Armbar.  He’s done so in a jaw dropping 13 of 17 victories.  He’ll be facing Bruno Santos in the first round of the Bellator Middleweight tournament tomorrow night and he’ll need to avoid Bruno’s ability to grind and take fights the distance.  Santos is a perfect 12-0 with all but one victory coming the way of unanimous decision.  Santos looks like a pit-bull and is said to be relatively heavy handed but all the decisions seem to fly in the face of that fact.  I’d be surprised if “The Arm Collector” didn’t take another one home to the collection.  Going with Giva Santana by submission, oh, let’s call it an armbar.

UFC on Fuel TV: 'The Korean Zombie vs. Poirier' Poster, Fight Card

The UFC on Fuel will launch it's 3rd live Main Card on Tuesday May 15th from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.

The Main Event features a bout between The Korean Zombie and Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier, a contest that will likely decide who gets the next crack at Featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo sometime later this summer.

This is one of those cards that while it may only boast a handful of well recognized stars, it screams matchmaking brilliance once again. There is a reason why UFC matchmaker Joe Silva does what he does folks, and he's been getting better and better at it with an even stronger talent pool to work with. Check out the full card for UFC on Fuel TV: 'The Korean Zombie vs. Poirier'  as it stands today after the break.

This Violent Moment: Pat Curran obliterates the self proclaimed "Baddest Man on the Planet"

The Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana was the setting for what may go down as the most violent mixed martial arts moment of 2012. Pat Curran stripped the self proclaimed "Baddest Man on the Planet" Joe Warren of his Bellator Featherweight title, and he may have even taken what was left of his soul in the process.

Pat "Paddy Mike" Curran utilized his full arsenal of weaponry to brutalize what my or may not have been an even conscious standing Joe Warren. Folks, this is an early favorite for beatdown and late stoppage of the year honors.

What do we learn from this moment in violence?

1. If Joe Warren and Pat Curran reside on the same planet Warren isn't the baddest man on it.

2. Curran is going to be a threat at Featherweight for a long time with finishes like this one, and his TKO over the more dangerous Marlon Sandro last August. I'm not going to say he could touch Aldo but in a shallow UFC 145 pool he'd be the top guy to challenge him today.

3. It's nice to have Bellator back.

Featherweights deliver the action at Bellator 60

Gif courtesy of MMA Mania

The featherweight division might be the most exciting division in all of MMA.  The 145ers were on full display Friday night as the sixth season of Bellator took to MTV2 for Bellator 60.  It featured the first round of the Featherweight tournament as well as the Featherweight championship clash between Joe Warren and Pat Curran.  Here’s what went down in Hammond, IN at the Horseshoe.

In the first tournament fight, that took place on the undercard, Alexandre “PoPo” Bezerra taking on Kenny Foster who was a very late replacement for Genair da Silva who was forced out of the tournament when he missed weight the day before.  It was an opportunity lost for da Silva, but that loss was Foster’s gain when he entered the tourney with an opportunity to win it all.  That wouldn’t come to pass.

Bellator 60 to Feature Featherweight Madness

If you like the Featherweight division, then Friday night is going to be a glorious evening for you.  Bellator is back on MTV2 and ready to bring their popular tournament format back to the masses with the first round of the Featherweight tourney, as well as a bonus clash for the Featherweight title between Joe Warren and Pat Curran.

Jeremy Spoon vs. Daniel Straus

Jeremy Spoon or “Spooner” as he’s known in some circles will bring his perfect 12-0 record into this fight with Straus.  Spoon will be making his second trip into Bellator here as he defeated Adam Schindler in October of last year.  He won his first 9 fights all by either submission or TKO, but as competition got stiffer in his last three outings, he’s won by decision.  Daniel Straus represents his biggest challenge as Straus has a wealth of experience having fought in over 20 fights.  Straus was successful in 2 of his 3 fights in Bellator last season before losing to Patricio Freire.  He defeated Ultimate Fight alumnus Jason Dent in his last fight.  This one could go either way, but Straus would be the favorite in my mind heading into the first round clash.

Breaking News: Frankie Edgar will get his rematch

via @danawhite - Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson rematch will be this summer

@FrankieEdgar tweets - Rematch anyone??.......it's on!! Thanks to . Me and Henderson 2. Here we go!!

Frankie "The Answer" Edgar (14-2-1 MMA, 9-2-1 UFC) will get a shot at getting his Lightweight title back this summer against newly crowned Champ Benson "Smooth" Henderson (16-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) sometime this summer. Their recent match just over a week ago in Japan saw Henderson winning the title in controversial fashion via Unanimous Decision. Edgar granted B.J. Penn a rematch after taking his title back in 2010, and more recently Gray Maynard after failing to reach a "resolution" on New Years Day 2011.

The UFC did right by one of their former champions in granting him the rematch this summer. The first time around Edgar vs. Henderson didn't suck and it certainly isn't going to the second time. Neither competitor understands how to compete in a bout that isn't fight of the night material. While one could make an argument for Anthony Pettis as well, "Showtime" will have to once again keep winning and wait his turn.

UFC on Fuel TV 2 : Lil' Nog suffers injury, Thiago Silva will step in to face Gustafsson

 via ufc:

Following a knee injury suffered in training for his April 14th bout against Alexander Gustafsson, Rogerio Nogueira has been forced to withdraw from the UFC on FUEL TV main event in Stockholm, Sweden. Stepping in for Lil' Nog will be another hard-hitting Brazilian, Thiago Silva, who is returning to the Octagon for the first time since January of 2011.

The UFC will be hitting Sweden with a Light Heavyweight tilt that packs just as much heat as the one that was just scrapped. With Antonio Rogerio Nogueira being forced to heal his knee before he steps back into the cage, another hard hitting Brazilian will try his hand at spoiling things for the Gustafsson faithful. The always dangerous Thiago Silva will return to the Octagon for the first time in over a year after serving the duration of his suspension for a bad urine sample.

Thiago Silva is looking for his first win since 2009, when he brutally knocked out Keith Jardine, then stood over his unconscious body pointing at him. This of course fired up Rashad Evans, The Dean of Mean's teammate, leading to an Evans vs. Silva UFC 108 Main Event extravaganza. Evans controlled the first two rounds until Thiago started having success in the 3rd by mimicking his opponent and catching him with some shots that almost finished him in the process. Evans survived however and came out on the right side of a Unanimous Decision victory. Due to nagging back issues we wouldn't see Silva again until early 2011 where he dominated Brandon "The Truth" Vera (even playing drums on his back when he got bored). Unfortunately Silva used banned substances to deal with his back pain and his victory turned into a no contest.

Since being choked out by Phil Davis in Abu Dhabi two springs ago, Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson has
been the hottest Light Heavyweight in the division not named Jon Jones. He's finished all four of his opponents inside of two rounds, earning himself a date with Minotouro. Instead he's faced with a hungry opponent who hasn't seen a lot of action in recent years.

The Weekend in Violence: Three Stars

"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey clearly doesn't give a damn about her bad reputation

1. Ronda Rousey

The walkout music (Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - Bad Reputation). The stomp. The death stare. The judo throw. The Rousey-bar.

Ronda Rousey took Miesha Tate's arm along with her Strikeforce Bantamweight title over the weekend in Columbus, Ohio. Rousey was unapologetic for ruining her opponents arm in her post fight interview and refused to squash the beef with her latest victim. And why should she apologize. She's done more for women's mixed martial arts in the past few months than anyone since Gina Carano. Plus calling for your opponent to be fined (Tate thought being head butted at the weigh ins warranted this, even though the former champ initiated contact herself) is a legit reason for anyone not to make amends with an already bitter rival.

So who's next for the champ? Check out our second star.

Black and Blue Sabbath, Sunday Morning Perspective

What a helluva weekend it was in the world of mixed martial arts.  Friday night, the UFC rocked Sydney, Australia and Saturday Strikeforce rattled their cage in Columbus, OH.  We had wars, upsets, championships, twitter craziness and everything in between.  Let’s run it all back and try and shake off this MMA Hangover.

The stealing defeat from the jaws of victory award goes to, Thiago Alves for his ill-advised last minute takedown attempt against Martin Kampmann.   Thiago Alves was controlling the entire fight in the main event of the FX2 and with a minute and change left, he again hurt Kampmann standing and dove in for a takedown.  Well, as it sometimes happen, Thiago left his head in there and Kampmann tied it up for a picture perfect guillotine choke, forcing the tap with 48 seconds left in the fight.  Tough break for the durable Brazilian and a big career win for Kampmann.

(GIF) Newly crowned Strikeforce Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey collects her fifth arm

The first four "professional" arms she collected only took her a combined 2 minutes and eighteen seconds. This one took a full 4 minutes and twenty-seven seconds.

If you dare and go back to the newly crowned Strikeforce Bantamweight Champion's amateur days, you'll find three more victories, again all by armbar. A combined minute a forty-four seconds were spent to claim those three arms.

So all in all we have 8 arms in 8 minutes and twenty-nine seconds. Ronda Rousey is taking what she feels is rightfully hers at about an arm a minute clip.

A closer look at her latest victim's grimace after the click.

Strikeforce: 'Tate vs. Rousey' Results - The Girls Ignite Columbus

With the annual Arnold Sports Festival, and Strikeforce in town there has been no shortage of testosterone in Columbus, Ohio this weekend. But it was the women of the Strikeforce Bantamweight division that carried tonight's fight card.

After Lightweights K.J. Noons and Josh Thomson managed to lull half of Nationwide Arena to sleep (the other half roused them with a chorus of boos), Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey woke every single one of them up (except for the drunk guy behind me) with a 4 minute and 27 second instant back and forth classic.

Here are your full results for Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey. Expect plenty more on this event right here in the days to come.

Why Miesha Tate vs. Ronda Rousey is the most important fight in WMMA history

Last summer I wrote an article for MMAValor that explained why Marloes Coenen vs. Miesha Tate was going to be the most "important" fight in WMMA History. It was an article that I wouldn't have written if I didn't truly believe in that headline.

Fast forward a couple of seasons later, a little under 400 miles east  and you'll find what I'm going to go ahead and call, once again the most important fight in WMMA history. Again, I wouldn't write this if I didn't believe it.

Strikeforce 'Tate vs. Rousey': Forgetting Sarah Kaufman

Sarah Kaufman is the only Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Champion to successfully defend her title. Heading out of her second title defense, the Victoria, B.C native found herself empty handed following a vicious defeat via the armbar of Marloes "Rumina" Coenen.

So after putting two wins together post Coenen, it was just a matter of who will the former champ fight for the chance to get her title back? Miesha Tate, whom earned a title shot by winning the Women's Bantamweight Tournament, or Marloes Coenen, the current champion.  Kaufman fielded questions about which fighter she'd rather face. Did she want a shot at beating up Miesha again to get her title back or a chance to avenge the lone defeat on her record, the one she suffered via the armbar of "Rumina"? Of course having the mindset of a champion, Kaufman wanted Coenen. That didn't quite work out for her. As a matter of fact, she didn't even get her title shot. Enter Ronda Rousey and her gift of the silver tongue.

Bellator will be celebrating 4/20 in Cleveland with Alvarez vs. Aoki II

Two of the most decorated Lightweights of our time are headed for Cleveland, Ohio to celebrate what some folks are now calling a "counterculture" holiday. Regardless, fans of cannabis and/or mixed martial arts around the world will likely agree that Alvarez vs. Aoki II may be the biggest headliner Bellator has offered us to date. The bout will be broadcast live on MTV2 as the feature bout of Bellator 66 on Friday April 20th inside of the I-X Center.

Aoki and Alvarez squared off for the first time as part of the Dynamite!! 2008 annual New Years Eve fight card. . It only took Aoki just over a minute and a half to finish his opponent (via heel hook) and take home the coveted WAMMA Lightweight Championship (sarcasm). He would be the first and only WAMMA Lightweight title holder.

UFC on FX 2: The Flyweights are here

This preview gives us an inside look at tonight's UFC Flyweight Tournament competitors . Well at least 3 out of 4 of them (Yasuhiro Urushitani is noticeably M.I.A. in this piece).

"Every kid wants to be a football player or a basketball player.. there was a point when I had to realize, ok, I'm too small to be a football player" - Benavidez

"I think my best asset is mixing it up... I don't really suck at anything." - McCall

UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz on Ian McCall - "...who in my opinion has the best fundamental wrestling and probably the most powerful I think, most strong."

"Benavidez is basically a 125 pound Urijah Faber, that's the best way to put it." - Cruz

" Urushitani's beaten a lot of people, he is a great fighter. I don't think he's ever fought anyone like Joseph Benavidez. I think Benavidez is the person I'll see in the finals. I think it's got fight of the century written all over it..." - McCall

Their Violent Past: 5 fights to prepare you for UFC on FX 2

This post offers fans not familiar with their work a small sample size, along with three other fights from the starring cast of UFC on FX 2.

• Tachi Palace Fights 10: Ian McCall vs. Darrell Montague (Flyweight Title Fight)

McCall is likely to be one of the leaders of the UFC Flyweight pack for years to come regardless of tomorrow nights outcome.
