Strikeforce 'Rousey vs. Kaufman' results: Miesha Tate defeats Julie Kedzie in a true 'Eye of the Tiger' performance
Here is our play-by-play of one of the best fights I've seen thus far in 2012.
Round 1: Miesha "Cupcake" Tate enters to "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor. Julie "Fireball" Kedzie to "Dog Days are Over" by Florence and the Machine. And we are off. Jason Herzog is the ref. Both girls come out hard. Oh man Kedzie is just slaughtering Tate early. A head kick lands that could be danger for the former champ. Tate looking to set up her takedowns. Kedzie's striking is crisp!
Beautiful kickboxing display early. Superman punch from Tate misses, and Kedzie lands one on the jaw. Cupcake has Fireball against the cage. Shamrock makes a good point for once, I will be calling those punches Superwoman punches as opposed to Superman. Now Kedzie reverses postion, shes dominate, and releases. This is Kedzie's fight standing. All Kedzie early. Great takedown defense from Kedzie. She has Tate in the north south position now. Another big right hand from Kedzie, and Tate looks tired. She's telegraphing takedowns. Kedize is hitting Tate in the ribs and gets back up. You can hear Greg Jackson yell "Holy Julie Kedzie Wow!". Tate finally lands a good shot but telegraphs another one. Kedzie stuffs another one and is just constantly working. Side kick knocks Tate down! Kedize looks amazing! Now Tate gets dominant position, what a sweep into mount after she attempts a triangle choke! Tate still has some fight in her. Kedzie takes it 10-9.
Round 2: Another head kick from Kedzie as Tate commits to the takedown game. Kedzie has a great game plan and she is getting after it. Tate somehow gets Kedzie to the ground with a trip but now its Kedzie working for the triangle. Kedzie has Miesha's left arm locked up and MieshaNation has to be holding their collective breath. Tate is on Kedzie's back now looking for the RNC. Tate has a lot of time to work. Figure four lock in and shes pounding on the back off Kedzie. Tate has the choke sunk in. No dice. Miesha still going for it but with just one arm under. Side control now for Miesha. Kedzie is now stuck in a arm in guillotine. She gets out and back on her feet. This is Miesha's round now. She said she wanted to steal the show from Rousey and Kaufman. She and Kedzie are. How much energy will these fighters have left for the 3rd. Tate takes this one 10-9.
Round 3: No glove touching. Just more striking. Gotta love it. Kedzie hammers Tate's lead leg with a kick and Tate is on her back shortly. Tate goes for another takedown, stuffed. Man Kedzie's kicks are just a work of art. Another one to the body. Right head kick! Miesha left her hands down and Tate is in big trouble. Ground and pound from Kedzie. Tate is still alive. Tate is looking for an armbar, Survivor is the perfect word for Miesha. Tate still working looking to seperate that arm from Kedzie's frame. Locked in! She frees up her arm with her foot. Great defense from Kedzie. She taps! Miesha Tate has just submitted Julie Kedzie via arm bar. Fight of the year so far. Kedzie put on the perfect performance, Miesha took everything she had and survived, winning with the armbar finish. Kedzie tells her corner that she's sorry, she f**cked up. Tate just put on one of the gutsiest performances I've ever seen.
Final Result: Miesha Tate defeats Julie Kedzie via submission (armbar) Round 3, 3:28
