Anderson Silva finishes Chael Sonnen to remain the greatest of all time

"If you'd like to have a barbeque at my house I'd love to have you over for a barbeque." - Anderson Silva to Chael Sonnen post fight.

Chael Sonnen had never been finished in his previous 49 professional career fights. That was until the biggest fight of his career.

Sonnen started the 1st round of tonight's title fight the same way he did the last - aggressive. It was a dominant first five minutes for Chael, an early takedown with some ground and pound and ending the round in full mount for good measure? It appeared that we may have a new champion tonight.

Time for Round 7. For the first time in their fighting history, Chael could not take down Anderson. After some stellar takedown defense from the Champion Sonnen threw out an uncharacteristic spinning back fist, but to no avail. Silva's spidey sense allowed him to avoid the spinning attack and force his challenger to fall against the cage, prone for just a moment. That's all Silva needed. The champion landed a huge knee to the body of his challenger, big enough to take the very life out of him. He then picked his shots in Spideresque fashion to end the Chael Sonnen chapter in his historic fighting career.

15-0  in his UFC career. 10-0 in title fights. 13 of those 15 via finish. As the late great Notorious B.I.G. would say - "Here's another one, and another one."  It's not over yet. Stay tuned to see who's next for the greatest champion in combat sports history.
