What's next for the winners and losers of 'UFC on FX 3'?

In this post, hov-mma contributor Gary Mc shares with us his thoughts on what is, and may be next for the big winners and losers of 'UFC on FX 3'.

Demetrious Johnson:  Johnson is the big winner of the night with his victory earning him a spot in the Tournament final against Joseph Benavidez for the inaugural UFC Flyweight title. Expect the fight to happen sometime in the fall.

Ian McCall:  The flyweight division is still light so the options for Uncle creepy are slim. If Joe Silva sticks to his usual method of putting losers against losers then expect Creepy to get either John Lineker or Yasuhiro Urushitani. Both these fights would be interesting but I think it’s a bout with John Dobson that has the most potential to be a great fight.

Erick Silva:  Big win for Silva against a solid smothering wrestler. He punished him with knees at every takedown attempt and popped right back up whenever Brenneman was successful with the takedown. If the UFC want to build Silva up slowly then a fight with Mike Pyle or Dan Hardy might make sense. However Silva is a very exciting fighter to watch and a fight with Thiago Alves or Diego Sanchez would make for potential fight of the nights and should he win raise his star up significantly.

Charlie Brenneman:  Brenneman could very well end up getting Alves instead of Silva due to both fighters coming off loses. Alves just doesn’t do well against wrestlers and I would much prefer to see him against Silva. I think 3 options for ‘’The Spaniard’’ could be Mike Pierce, John Hathaway or Mike Pyle. Brenneman is a good wrestler but his stand up is mediocre at best. He needs to develop it if he is to be anything more than a gatekeeper at welterweight.

Mike Pyle:  Pyle is a solid welterweight who is good at all aspects MMA but not great at any. Randy Couture has consistently said that the Mike Pyle he trains with is far better than the one that shows up in the octagon. And at 36 his time is running out to live up to the promise that Couture has seen in him. Pyle could face either Brenneman or Erick Silva next but I think a fight with the winner of Brian Ebersole and TJ Waldburger would be a more exciting match up.

Josh Neer:  Nasty KO loss for Neer. It looked like he was starting to take control and walked straight into Pyle’s right cross. Neer’s next fight could be a welcoming party for a UFC newcomer but if it’s not then a fight with Paulo Thiago makes sense. Both are coming off Faceplant KO losses and would make for a great stand up war. Another option might be Rich Attonito who is coming off a loss to Jake Hecht.

Eddie Wineland:  Now that was the Eddie Wineland I remembered from WEC. Wineland showed some great footwork and head movement throughout the Fight of the Night. His KO of the always tough Scott Jorgensen was also very impressive. Next for Wineland could be either Michael MacDonald or Brad Pickett. Both fights would have exciting written all over them. MacDonald needs to keep moving towards that titke shot and a win over Wineland would most certainly land him there. For Pickett it would be a chance to get back in the mix at 135.

Scott Jorgensen:  Jorgensen is in a bad run at the moment and not looking like the fighter who had such promise in WEC. A fight with either Brian Bowles or Miguel Torres would make sense. It would give us a chance to see if Jorgensen still has it in him to make another run at the title or if the bantamweight division has passed him out. It would also make sense as the same questions are being asked of both Torres and Bowles as well.
