UFC 144 Results: 4089 Days Coming, the UFC birth of Issei Tamura
Present Day: The UFC has invaded Japan with what seems to be little to no resistance. Fans have packed the Saitama Super Arena to the gills in anticipation of a Sunday afternoon delight of fights. The first match is ready to go with Zhang Tiequan entering the Octagon to square off against promotional newcomer Issei Tamura, the underdog who stepped in for an injured Leonard Garcia on very short notice.
The Shooto mainstay rocks Zhang early in the 1st which causes the Japanese faithful to explode. This kind of eruption is uncharacteristic of JMMA crowds, they usually take in these sorts of moments with silence. Tamura follows Zhang to the ground and gifts him with relentless hammerfists. It's clearly a 10-9 round for Tamura.
What we witness in the 2nd Round is one of those magical MMA moments. Tamura lands a gorgeous right hand directly on Zhang's chin that sends him landing awkwardly on the canvas. Zhang eats another unnecessary punch as Tamura is pulled off him by referee Herb Dean and this one is etched in the history books.
Final Result: Issei Tamura (7-2) defeats Tiequan Zhang (15-3) via KO (punch) (Round 2, 0:32)
