Who's next for *The Natural*?

With a 3 fight win streak and a brand new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture shouldn't waste a whole lot of time before he signs the dotted line for his next bout . The fight against James Toney was the 4th of  6 fight on  the resident Benjamin Button's current contract. Seeing that Couture expended virtually no energy in his past two fights where he retired Mark Coleman, and possibly James Toney from the UFC, Couture's next fight should either wind up on the Late December card or we could see him on the Super Saturday card early next year.

With Couture most likely finishing his career at Light Heavyweight gunning to retire as Champion there really is only one fight I see for him next. Couture vs . Franklin was the rumored fight before Chuck Liddell needed an emergency replacement opponent after Tito Ortiz was forced off the TUF 11 set due to injury. It's said that Franklin will be fight ready for December after recovering from the broken left forearm he suffered during UFC 115 against Chuck so there is no reason why this fight won't happen. A match up between arguably the two nicest and most respected gents in the sport will be a huge PPV draw that would be a perfect Co- Headliner to a Edgar vs. Maynard card that will be a tough sell to the average fight fan. Whoever wins this fight could take on the winner of Rampage vs. Machida or be fast tracked to a title shot against the Shogun vs. Evans winner for the simple reason that they are in the twilight of their career and they flat out sell .

UFC 124: St. Pierre vs. Koscheck II headed to Montreal

Josh Koscheck will fight in hostile territory come December 11th when he meets Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Koscheck defeated Paul Daley earlier this year in the same venue while the Montreal Canadiens where in the midst of putting together a memorable playoff run. The fight earned Kos a spot as a coach opposite St. Pierre on TUF 12 while it earned Daley a ticket out of the UFC for his illegal shot on his opponent after the final bell. When Canada's Number One athlete faces off against one of the top trash talkers in the sport today it should serve as a memorable Hero vs. Villain build up just in time for the Holiday season.

UFC 118 Recap: Diaz vs. Davis

In what was one of the more lackluster events for the big promotion this year, (its hard to complain considering 116 & 117 may have been two of the best events in the history of the sport) Diaz vs. Davis was one of the few bright spots. Both fighters were awarded well earned 60,000 bonuses for the fight that lead off the Main Card . Diaz got his opponent's face to leak early and often which became a problem for Davis in the final 2 Rounds. His eye was filled with blood throughout the fight making it tough to utilize his stellar boxing. Diaz ended one of the biggest beatdown's of the year so far by putting Davis to bed with under a minute left in the final round. The TUF Season 5 winner may be using his to smoke out his big brother, and Joe Rogan while Boston's Marcus Davis can use his to fix his  face.

UFC 118 Recap: Florian vs. Maynard

photo by: Tracy Lee for Yahoo! Sports

Gray Maynard's insane wrestling skills not only earned him his 7th straight decision victory Saturday night in Boston but also secured him a shot at the UFC Lightweight Championship at a date TBD. Gray lived up to his bully status taking down Florian at will while looking bigger, and stronger than Kenny from start to finish, gaining  himself Number 1 contender status in the Lightweight division.

UFC 118 Recap: Maia vs. Miranda

All UFC 118 Recap photos by Tracy Lee of Y! Sports. You can follow Tracy Lee on twitter here .

Demian Maia took care of business Saturday night by dominating his opponent for 3 full rounds. While Mario Miranda deserves credit for defending Maia's submission attempts he was no match for his fellow countryman. CompuStrike had Maia landing an impressive 81% of his total strikes , 90 being of the ground variety. The BJJ phenom also won the takedown battle 6-0 which made the final result a well deserved Unanimous Decision Victory putting Maia right back in the mix at 185.

UFC 118 Recap: Couture vs. Toney

I had no idea you could purchase Sinister Brand clothing at K Mart. We learned from James Toney's walkout shirt Saturday night that this is indeed possible, and i thank Mr. Toney for that. I would also like to thank James for helping beef up one of my all time favorite's fight record. Randy Couture had no problem with the Boxing Legend this weekend improving to 19-10 in his MMA career. It was only 20 seconds before Couture took the fight to the ground with a rare low single leg takedown. Once Randy had *Lights Out* on the ground it was all over. Toney had no idea how to get out of the mounts of *The Natural* and it was just a matter of time before he was TKO'ed or submitted. Randy ended the fight at 3:19 of the very first round with an arm-triangle that forced Toney to tap out ending what may very well be his first and last match inside the cage.

UFC 118 Recap : Edgar vs. Penn 2

Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar did what he set out to do this past Saturday in Boston. *The Answer* beat B.J. Penn for the second straight (the only Lightweight to defeat Penn twice) time solidifying himself as the Number 1 Lightweight in the world. Edgar once again dominated Penn taking all Five Rounds of the bout in a pretty tame Main Event. CompuStrike had Edgar out striking Penn 155 to 53 , landing his punches at a 55% percent clip in his first title defense. Although Penn looked better than he did in Abu Dhabi earlier this year thats really not saying much. *The Prodigy* looked well conditioned for this one late in the match but just couldn't match the heart or speed of his opponent.

HOV-MMA 118 Pick Em

UFC 118: Penn vs Edgar 2 will go live at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass tomorrow for a night of fights featuring 20 dudes who all want to beat each other up and get paid for it. Here are my picks!

Main Card (Only on PPV)

• I love stories like this. Marcus Davis (17-6 MMA, 9-4 UFC) comes home to perform in front of friends and family for the very first time in his UFC career. The crowd goes ballistic (not Ecks vs. Sever ballistic but ballistic nonetheless) as *The Irish Hand Grenade* makes his way into the Octagon. After all this is the very first fight of the Main Card in rowdy Boston where a win from Davis would send an already naughty crowd into a frenzy. Then comes the happy ending. Nate Diaz (12-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) plays spoiler with a 2nd round submission victory .

• Kenny *The Machinist*  Florian (14-4 MMA, 11-3 UFC) takes on Gray Maynard (9-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) in a fight that will determine who is the #1 contender in the UFC Lightweight division. The winner of this bout will take on the winner of the Main Event of the night at a later date. Florian win by decision with his razor sharp elbows, and dangerous ground game against the wrestler in a knock down, drag out 3 Round classic.  I really wish Bruce Buffer would announce Florian as The Machinist rather than *KenFlo*. Just saying.

• Demien Maia (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) returns to the Octagon for the first time since the Anderson Silva debacle earlier this year in Abu Dhabi. His opponent will be fellow Brazilian Mario Miranda (12-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) . Maia should return to doing what he does best here, winning fights by submission.

• Randy Couture (18-10 MMA, 15-7 UFC) will enter the cage with a 2 fight win streak against James Toney (MMA debut) Saturday Night. 5 years from now people will be talking about this one. The conversation will go something like this:

Random Dude 1 : "Dude...remember that one time James Toney fought in the UFC?"
Random Dude 2 : " Yah.....hahaha....that was a fucking riot."

Couture will make Toney look more out of his element than Donny Kerabatsos in this one. Couture wins by either ground and pound or submission. Take your pick.

• Frankie Edgar (12-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC)  makes his first title defense against the man he took the strap from earlier this year, B.J. Penn (15-6-1 MMA, 11-5-1 UFC). Frankie Edgar is a dangerous fighter who will be right in the mix with the elite of the Lightweight division for a long time. I just don't see him beating a focused B.J. Penn. Don't let the record fool you, a motivated B.J. Penn may be the most dangerous fighter in the sport. Out of his 6 losses 3 come from moving up to Welterweight to fight Matt Hughes & GSP (one a close split decision loss, the 2nd a very greasy GSP) . Another loss came against Lyoto Machida back in 05. Penn held his own against a fighter in Machida who weighted 30 pounds more than him, and would go on to become a future UFC champion 2 weight classes above *The Prodigy*. Penn gets his belt back sending the Boston crowd home happy by finishing his opponent . Violently.

Last Pick Em - Strikeforce: Houston: 4-2
HOV-MMA 2010 Record : 34-19

More picks after the jump.

Mayhem vs. Sakuraba confirmed for DREAM.16

BloodyElbow.com confirmed earlier today via Andrew Simon (CEO of HDNet Fights) that Jason *Mayhem* Miller (23-7 MMA, 1-1 DREAM) will face off against Kazushi *The Gracie Hunter* Sakuraba (26-13-1 MMA, 3-2 DREAM) as a part of the DREAM.16 card later next month. Kazushi is coming off a UD loss at DREAM.14 against Ralek Gracie which dropped his record to 4-2 against the Gracie family (4-1 against the legendary family when they weren't testing positive for steroids). Miller is coming off a TKO victory over Tim Stout earlier this year at the now infamous Strikeforce: Nashville event where Miller was beat down in a WWE style brawl that took place after Jake Shields successfully defended his Middleweight Title against Dan Henderson. 5 fighters including Mayhem were given 3 months suspension for their post fight shenanigans .

Helwani interviews Penn at 118 pre fight presser

I feel like Ariel Helwani & Esther Lin are two of the best, if not thee best in covering MMA right now when it comes to interviews, discussion, and of course in Esther's case photographs. So for everyone ( all 5 of you) that are reading this right now go bookmark AllElbows.com and MMAFighting.com . Here is a great shot from Esther, and another lovely interview from Ariel, both with the man who inspired me to start this website earlier this year.

Dana White's chat with Mike Tyson

What Dana says about there being nothing like sitting at home watching Mike Tyson make his way into the ring during the *Mike Tyson era*. So true. Never has, and never will be anyone like him in my lifetime.

White leans towards Silva vs. Sonnen II, Shogun out until Spring/Summer

Dana White visits the SportsCenter studios as a part of his UFC 118 media tour. With the focus being the top 2 fights on the 118 card White also explains that he will most likely give Chael Sonnen an immediate rematch against Anderson Silva . He also lets everyone know that Mauricio Rua will now be out until the Spring/Summer of 2011 where he will still make his first LHW title defense against #1 contender Rashad Evans.

Diaz vs. Noons official headliner for Oct. 9 Card.

Nick Diaz will defend his Strikeforce Welterweight title at the Shark Tank in San Jose on October 9th against K.J. Here is the bouts that have been reported so far for Strikeforce San Jose: Diaz vs. Noons II :

 Women's Welterweight Championship:
• Sarah Kaufman (C) (12-0 MMA, 4-0 SF) vs. Marloes Coenen (17-4 MMA, 1-1 SF)

Countdown to UFC 118 Fighter Quotes

B.J. Penn :

" After the fights done i want him to look at me and go...thats B.J. Penn..that right there..that's what it's like to fight the world champion"

Frankie Edgar : " This fight will solidify me as the number one guy in the world."

 On Penn vs. Edgar 1:

Penn :

" I was trying too hard to knock him out and that gets you in the wrong state of mind out there."

Frankie:

" Hands down i won 3,4 & 5. He was slowing down. I was increasing my pace. "

Penn:

" I was just kind of dissapointed . As soon as the fight ended i was like *expletive*. What a terrible fight on my end."

" You want a cookie for the victory that you got over me that night. Have all your boys put you on their shoulders and dance you around at the judges and try to steal the victory and do stuff like that. Whatever man . Thats the ?guy? you are? Ok. I gotchoo. Its a joke."

Penn on Edgar wanting Maynard, not Penn as his first title defense :

" He showed his true colors right off...and it kinda was yellow"

Edgar on B.J.'s aura:

"  B.J. Penn man he does have this aura. I think another win over him, maybe i could steal that aura and have it on myself.

Penn's thoughts on the August 28th rematch :

" I wanna knock him out or submit him. Slam him on his head and have him get knocked out from that. "

Edgar:

"I'm gonna go in there ..i'm gonna fight my balls off. Thats all i know how to do"

Ok now its Toney/Couture time. Thank God for the subtitles when Toney speaks.

James Toney :

" Randy want it..he got it. And come August 28th I'm gonna kick his fucking ass. Period. I'm gonna knock his head off his shoulders."

Randy Couture:

"I'll be the first one to say im not a world class boxer. I haven't won a championship in boxing but this isn't boxing. There's a whole lot of other things that go on inside this cage"

James Toney:

" How do i feel about fighting a 47 year old man? I hope he gets SSI. It's time for him to collect it . "

Randy Couture:

" I've heard alot of the comments James made. I think it's good comedy. It's certainly creating an interest in the fight. But it doesn't have anything to do with the night. "

James Toney on wrestling:

" Get on the ground. Get scared. Hold on..start kicking and scratching. Come on dawg. Get up for it. Thats bullshit."

Couture:

" I think there's some serious holes in his game and it's my job to point them out."

Toney on the oddsmakers "

" 5 to 1? Thats disrespectful. Here i am an all time boxing great...a 5 to 1 dog to a mixed martial artist. Are you kidding me?"

Couture on walking into the world famous Octagon for the first time :

" The first time you do it...you wanna pee down your leg for sure."

Toney :

" Randy's a cool dude. He's got a family just like i do. But on August 18th his head's coming off his shoulders for 10 seconds."

Toney on the first time he put on the 4 oz. gloves:

"You better get bail money ready. Cuz whoever i hit.... ain't gonna be nothing left. "

Couture :

" Gonna tie him up. Dirty box. punches, knees, elbows, shoulders. "

Toney's retort :

" Lemme show you what real dirty boxing is all about . All i can tell you if he come with the dirty boxing thing he gonna be doing some hiccups."

Toney again:

"Randy by all means pretend I have a blonde wig on and try to hug me."

More Toney:

" The never had a real fighter in the UFC before. I'm as real as they get."

Couture:

" I dont' care about knocking him out. I just wanna beat his ass."

Gray Maynard on Kenny Florian:

" His striking doesn't worry me at all"

More Gray:

"He does have the elbows and kicks. I just need to touch his face to let him know what i mean."

Kenny Florian:

"I think at the end of the night i'm gonna be the one to finish Gray Maynard."

One things we learned from the Couture/Toney segment. The possibility of brain damage makes Boxing more dangerous than MMA.

The UFC media blitz is officially on. President & Bostonian Dana White has already made it known that the promotion is in town with an assault of UFC news and vlog's that will continue throughout the week. We promise to cover all things UFC 118 whether it be stories from the best MMA sites on the web, our own previews and predictions , and of course the fights themselves. White and Co. know this event is the big one, the only one that can get this much press until October 23rd when the Brock Lesnar show hits Anaheim. Which makes this week a great week for MMA fans everywhere. Stay tuned!

Belfort will still fight in November, not for title.

Vitor Belfort (19-8 MMA, 8-4 UFC) still appears to be slated for UFC 122 in Oberhausen, Germany although his opponent has yet to be named. The only guarantee is that he will not be fighting for the Middleweight Championship due to Anderson Silva being out of commission until early 2011.

Strikeforce: Houston Results

Main Card:

• Rafael *Feijao* Cavalcante defeats *King Mo* Lawal via TKO at 1:14 of the 3rd Round to become the new Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion

• *Jacare* Souza defeats Tim Kennedy via UD to become the New Strikeforce Middleweight Champion

• KJ Noons defeats Jorge Gurgel via TKO 19 seconds into the 2nd Round

• Chad Griggs defeats Bobby Lashley via TKO at the very end of the 2nd Round

Sherdog.com Live Stream: (Commentary by Pat Miletich)

• Daniel Cormier defeats Jason Riley by way of submission (strikes) at 1:02 of Round 1

Cormier made it looks very simple tonight.

• Andre Galvao defeats Jorge Patino via TKO (strikes) at 2:45 of Round 3

Not sure why this fight was called. Galvao was winning the 3rd at the time but Patino still had a good couple of minutes to mount a comeback with the fight at a round each.

Prelim Results:

• Vinicius Magalhaes defeats Rocky Long via UD
• Adam Schindler submits Kier Gooch via rear naked choke Round 1
• Reynaldo Trujillo defeats Jose Santibanez via TKO (strikes) Round 1
• Chad Robichaux defeats Humberto Deleon via Split Decision
• Arteneus Young defeats Chad Cook via UD

Memo to Strikeforce :

Stellar intro , nice little opening montage. I actually thought maybe things were changing for the better with this broadcast for a couple of minutes there. Enter a bunch of folks that shouldn't be allowed within 100 feet of a live microphone.

Lose Jimmy Lennon Jr.(somebody take this guys pulse), Gus Johnson (this guy really has mastered the out of dragging out an interview) , and that god awful girl with the shit eating grin who does the pre fight interviews. Every interview was awkward, she belongs on the red carpet somewhere not on an MMA broadcast. Its so hard to take this promotion seriously when they refuse to put on a decent show. There is so much potential here! If something isn't done about the continuous garbage filled commentating , camera work in key moments & genuine all out butchery of a live broadcast Strikeforce will bury itself to the delight of the UFC and every other promotion in the world.

B.J. Penn " You're The Ultimate Fighting Champion?.....It's a Joke."

When Penn first met Edgar in the cage back in March he didn't have anything bad to say about the guy. Then Frankie Edgar left the event with B.J's belt.

Countdown to UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn 2 premieres Monday August 23rd at Midnight on Spike TV .

Strikeforce: Houston Preview/Pick EM

Strikeforce arrives in Houston tonight for a very stellar card that boasts 2 title bouts! It appears since this event is only a few hours away that we have reached the pick em portion of this show where the hot streak has officially come to an end. Yours truly posted a 1-4 record for the Main Card of WEC 50. Ouch.

*Photo by the great Esther Lin

Main Card:

• Bobby Lashley (5-0 MMA, 1-0 SF) vs. Chad Griggs (8-1 MMA, 0-0 SF)

Im be lying if I told you I knew a whole lot about Chad Griggs. This one reeks of Strikeforce trying to pad Lashley's record. Lashley by early ground and pound tko.

• KJ Noons (9-2 MMA, 1-0 SF) vs. Jorge Gurgel (13-6 MMA, 1-1 SF)

If this one goes to the ground Gurgel should be able to submit his opponent with relative ease. That said for some reason Gurgel hasn't been using his biggest asset lately which is his BJJ. Noons by decision.

• Ronaldo *Jacare* Souza (12-2 MMA, 2-0 SF) vs. Tim Kennedy (12-2 MMA, 3-0 SF)

This fight is for the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship that was vacated by Jake Shields when he left the organization. Kennedy's recent victories haven't impressed me much. If Kennedy can't find a way to buckle Jacare early while the two are standing I can't see him handling three rounds of Jacare's ground game. Jacare by submission.

• Muhammed *King Mo* Lawal (7-0 MMA, 2-0 SF) vs. Rafael Cavalcante (9-2 MMA, 2-1 SF)

There's no way I can pick against my boi King Mo , especially for his first title defense. Lawal will electrify Houston tonight with a brilliant ring entrance, dominant wrestling, and finish with a ground and pound TKO victory of Rafael Cavalcante. Mo leaves the ring with the strap around his waist to await the winner of the inevitabale upcoming yet to be officially announced Henderson vs. Babalu contest.

Sherdog.com Live Stream:

• Daniel Cormier (4-0 MMA, 2-0 SF) vs. Jason Riley (7-3 MMA, 0-0 SF)

Riley makes his Strikeforce debut tonight against Daniel Cormier. Although Riley has a significant height advantage over Cormier i don't see that posing a problem. Cormier is the man for lack of a better word and will win this one however he wants. Cormier wins via.... lets say KO.

• Andre Galvao (4-1 MMA, 1-0 SF) vs. Jorge Patino (20-12-1 MMA, 0-0 SF)

 Galvao by submission

Thats the end of the pick em segment. Undercard (which is now officially underway) after the jump

Mayhem Miller *Don't Be Scared Homie*

UFC return to Detroit?

1996. Cobo Arena. The setting for one of the worst UFC events of all time. This due to Arizona Senator John McCain's campaign against MMA. UFC 9: Motor City Madness was allowed to take place but only with a new set of rules that if not followed by the fighters on the card could have very well resulted in imprisonment. Even though these rules were not followed no fighters were arrested on this night.

The Main Event on this card,  Ken Shamrock vs. Dan Severn would be dubbed as *The Detroit Dance*. Due to Shamrock's nagging injuries, the threat of being arrested, and withdrawing from the fight causing the UFC damage, both fighters basically circled each other with very minimal contact throughout the entire bout. Severn landed some good elbows, illegal closed fisted punches, and headbutts which earned him a split decision victory that ended one of the most disappointing high profile events in the promotions history (see UFC 112 Abu Dhabi).

In the Detroit Free Press today Mike Brudenell wrote a column that expressed the possibility of the UFC returning to Detroit 14 years later. Click here for said article by way of www.freep.com.

Complete Forrest Griffin interview with Jason Ellis

Last week we posted a snippet of text from Forrest Griffin's hilarious interview with Jason Ellis on Sirius/XM Faction. Today Bloody Elbow uploaded the whole thing. Here it is in four pieces. Pure Radio Gold!

Jorgensen, Pickett, Pettis & Jewtuszko take home bonuses

Scott Jorgensen vs. Brad Pickett earned Fight of the Night Honors Wednesday night in a battle that will easily go down as one of the best of the year. As it stand right now i have it in my Top 3 right behind Leben vs. Akiyama & Sung Jung vs. Garcia.

The top submission on this night went to Anthony Pettis for his late 3rd round triangle choke of Shane Roller .

Knockout of the night award winner was Maciej Jewtuszko who TKO'ed Anthony Njokuani 1:35 into the fight with lethal uppercuts from the clinch.

All 4 of these fighters go home with a well deserved extra $10K . As much as i love me some free fights we need to get  the WEC back on PPV soon so these fighters can take home bigger bonuses.
